Amusing indeed!!

I think I'll hold off buying a car for now..wait out the uncertainty a little.I'm sure I'll be able to get some clue as to what might transpire.Meantime I think I'll borrow my dad's Merc CLK.. ;)

Lately, there's been some letter/rumours that has been circulating around where the credibility of the originator is in doubt - just like the infamous Soros letter to TDM.

Regardless..as we know,we've got clowns running the ministries and as such, its not impossible or even not unknown for them to fumble policies. While the policy statement may sound Jeremy Clarkson-ish in it's 'overstatement' of things,it MIGHT in essence be true albeit to a lesser extent.Note I used the term MIGHT in capital letters to highlight it's strength..;)

Interesting development..the possibilities are endless.Taxes taxes... hmmmmm ;)

hi guys..an update from thestar.com.my

KUALA LUMPUR: The Government is likely to put a cap on the amount of subsidised petrol a car owner can buy monthly, when the new petrol pricing mechanism starts on May 1.

Without a cap on the amount for each car, those eligible for the subsidised petrol would “definitely abuse it,” said Domestic Trade, Co-operatives and Consumerism Minister Datuk Seri Ismail Sabri Yaakob.

“They will buy as much petrol as possible and transfer it into a drum or somewhere, and then sell it to those who are not eligible.

“Those living near Thailand will sell it across the border,” he said in an interview yesterday.

Ismail Sabri said the Government was still discussing how much the limit should be and said this would be revealed to the public when it was fixed.

He admitted that those travelling long distances frequently and had no transport allowance might lose out due to the monthly cap.

However, there were others who would stand to gain, such as those driving small cars, living in small towns and working close to where they live.

The Government recently announced that it would fix a two-tier pricing system for petrol, depending on engine capacity, while foreigners would have to pay the market price.

Currently, the Government is subsidising petrol at 30 sen per litre for all. The market price for RON 95 is RM2.10 per litre but because of the subsidy, the pump price is only RM1.80.

Ismail Sabri said a person would be eligible for subsidised petrol for only one car.

He said, however, that if the cars were registered to different people, like the owner’s wife or children, then each would be eligible for the subsidised petrol.

On whether there would be two different pumps (subsidised and not subsidised) at petrol stations, he said that would not be the case; instead the pumps would have two prices or just the market price but those entitled to the subsidised price would pay less.

The Government was also looking at inserting a chip into the MyKad with information of the car, so that those eligible could swipe their MyKad for subsidised petrol.

The new pricing mechanism would apply only to the peninsula in the initial phase but it has raised many questions with few answers.

1 person only 1 subsidized car. So have to get more wives to get more subsidy hahahaha:love:

work hard, earn more, pay more tax and get nothing
work less, earn less, pay less tax and get something
don't work, no earn, no tax still get something
this is the spirit. can laze around la.....we lack productivity, lack efficiency....why?

In fact, it should be the other way round, work hard, earn more, pay more tax but enjoy loads more - this will encourage everyone to work hard and earn! then only this will encourage ppl to work hard and earn...but seems opposite..

btw, toll rates could hike soon too!

“The economy seems to be caught in a middle-income trap – unable to remain competitive as a high-volume, low-cost producer, yet unable to move up the value chain and achieve rapid growth by breaking into fast growing markets for knowledge- and innovation-based products and services”.

What the World Bank said in its report is totally correct. i Capital has been harping on the lack of productivity, efficiency and competitiveness (PEC) in Malaysia as far back as in 1995.

Bro, if you stand for election, you have my vote. Totally agree with you on this point.

Can oso but ask husband to buy BMW only.

P/S: Never miss an election since eligible but just dont understand Johorean:stupid:

What about company registered cars?
My cars are registered under my name so my wife will have to take my IC to fill up or I will have to do the filling up. Better use my wife's and son's name to buy a couple of used kancil...no need to be in running condition.

Actually I find this proposal rather unsettling. As the Mykad goes online, the government will instantly be able to track its citizens and gather information. This will be a lot more efficient than relying on credit card info, as there are people who pay cash. This way, everyone can be tracked.

Shades of George Orwell's "1984"... Scary...

U want to know why?

The answer has just been posted before u..

As posted by jaleeks23, well said!

work hard, earn more, pay more tax and get nothing

don't work, no earn, no tax still get something

Majority of Rakyat, that include Johorean belongs to the 2nd and 3rd category above. That's where the current govt's votes come from, and policies will be formulated favoring this 2 classes of population, to maintain their votes count and maintain their seats.. it doesn't take genius to understand this..

Those areas that won by oppositions, is a good sign of people working hard and earn more, pay more taxes and get NOTHING!!

I notice many petrol pumps around the boarders of Sabah and Sarawak plus Thailand are still old pumps ie no creditcard or card reader. Especially diesel pumps... how they going to monitor that?

Really? Good news then because "they" get to sell card readers at 1,000% margin and get the IRB to subsidize.. :top: u mean u don't know such protocol exist? Where have u been man?! :D

BolehLand = Land of Abundance Opportunity.. only if you know where to look..

If you read the Sunday Star, the minister has not given a definite date when this will be implemented in East Malaysia. I presumed it could be after the State Elections.

There are many more questions (very good ones) raised by readers of The Star of which the minister refused to divulge more info under the pretext that the mechanism is still not being finalised.

All in all, the objective of this exercise is to ensure fuel subsidy goes to the right target group. However, in the interview the minister has admitted that some will "terlepas", especially those that own luxury cars below 2000cc, but some will not receive anything (those that own older big cc cars). So, why is the government still adamant in implementing this policy when certain folks that deserve it do not receive it and vice versa???

The other option is to go for diesel, as there will not be any price increase come May 1st :)

Cheers

The G needs to show that it is working something on the subsidy. In true Malaysian politics, the policy made will only look popular. The G has not always thought of thorough implementation. Just do something and see how it goes.

I do not oppose the G removing the fuel subsidy completely, PROVIDED:

1. Road tax abolished (I'm currently driving a M52B28)

2. Car sales tax n excise duty lowered (AP only benefited certain few)

3. Savings from subsidy not "leaked" or fulfilling fantasies like teh tarik research in space.

You gain some, you lose some...it's Win-Win situation
