Just picked up my new 325i today. As a previous, menacing Golf GTi driver, this car is confusing to me. I appreciate the ride refinement, but my previous riding style totally doesn't suit this car.Any tips on 325 power delivery and how to maximise the car potential (from a turbo car driver's perspective) ?Updated: Newbie intro.Took delivery of my first BMW 325i (2011). Previously. VW Golf GTi, Honda Accord 2009, Satria Neo, SLK (small little kelisa) + Ducati (yes I am a track junkie too). What else intro needs ?

ergo... i believed you r those that don't cry over spilled milk :)

So.. if u want to max car potential... 2 methods

Cheap method ==> performance air intake + exhaust

Expensive method ==> since yours is a N52 engine block... ==> Supercharger! LOL

Welcome to the forums mate.

Interesting choice of upgrade from the Golf GTI.

What compelled you into making the jump to the roundel mate?

didnt you test drive before making the purchase? the characteristics of the gti and 325 are different. if u are looking at a nippy-zippy and instant-step instant-go character, i dont think a stock 325 can deliver.

The 320d is a rocket on the road. But don't cry over spilt milk....play with it for a few months then sell it off! Get a 320d next!

hmmmmm. must really test a 320d. been hearing alot about it.

Caution... this 320d poison is deadly and only has one cure... and it comes in the form of 380 N-m.

Sorry, will update post with proper intro.

Anyway, don't get me wrong, I still have GTi, hehe. The missus hate the hard ride and wanted something a little more comfy (probably the status among her friends too :D ). Something more relaxing on the highway.

So I can still take my veedub if I wanted and hack, since she got what she want, I probably go ahead and put stage 3 on my GTi.

Having said that, 325 is still a very nice ride. I'd imagine brutal power of GTi on on the beautiful ride of bmw... oh 320d ? (again, missus don't like the prospect of queuing with lorry to refuel)

no need to Q with lorry,i never did.theirs mostly diff nozzle size (the ones at the outside part of the station).
Usually i dont need to queue with anybody to refuel.
Wait.when was the last time i refuel my 320d? :p

lol...at first my missus complaining about the hard ride of 320d but after bought a nice comfy 7 seater she said she wants the D. whenever comes the time to refuel she will ask me to do it...

An 'upgrade' from a Golf GTi to a BMW would need a 335i at the very least to have that instant 'kick-in-the-back' feel.. note that I said UPGRADE.So in that context not even a 320d can give u more than what u have with the GTi in terms of shove. But alas,it's not an upgrade for u since u still have ur GTi..more of a parallel buy for the wifey la,rite? No need to do anything to the 325i,just a waste of money..let her drive it as it is,enjoy the scalpel-like handling and chassis balance and leave the 'point and scoot' driving to the GTi.
My 335i is at stage +(not even stage1) and it already pushes out 370+bhp and 520Nm.. A lot of other 335s here are pushing beyond 400bhp with minimal cost.Mine's my family car so I don't want to push it too much, plus with the current state of tune it's already faster than most cars on the road.
So if u wanna upgrade ur GTi,u may want to consider the 335i among ur possible choices.

BTW,the Golf GTi is an awesomely fast hatch... I'd keep it for a while longer cuz there are plenty of choices for an upgrade and u might wanna take ur time and search carefully.Meantime, enjoy both cars.. both are awesome in their own rights and many would consider themselves lucky to have both under one roof, plus a Ducati to boot! I'm awaiting delivery of my GSX-R1000 as well.. Nothing beats a bike for ultimate thrills!
