3. One servo pump [running cost rm 50+350 from the mech]
4. crank sensor (can be resold) [rm 210] cant resell cuz i cut the wire ]
5. other tow truck: rm200
used battery+labour= rm 150.00

total damage: rm 1,440.00

 my next DIY will start this weekend...... a electric radiator fan conversion. with auto on/off.

hope i dont burn the engine... hahahahahahaha

The AFM in my car is acting up again. I felt something unusual with the car today. Earlier, while driving to Wangsa Maju, I floored the accelarator then suddenly I felt something unusual as in when I released the accelarator pedal, the rpm went down really fast, reached below 500. Pulled over the car and the idling was bad. Had no choice but to pop up the front bonnet and lightly tapped on the air filter box (as suggested by someone earlier on). Then went to restart my car engine but the engine could not start. Then after a few tries, it started normally again and the idling was at around 800 and managed to drive home without any problem.

I think I need to service my AFM soon... sigh~

Possibility is that the vane is struck at full open position when you floored the accelerator. You should tap the AFM to release the vane/flap of the AFM.

Thanks for the tip Jarance, that was exactly what I did, tapping very lightly at the air filter box area. Now the car does not feel like an UDM anymore coz having phobia to floor the accelarator.

As some of you may know, with the help of Jarance, I got my AFM serviced recently and no more problem of having the engine shutting down after heavy acceleration. This was something great for me to know at least.

Lately, I faced another problem, the idling on my M43 is erratic, going up and down, though it's not that serious. So to put it to a simple test, once I started the engine (with air-cond off), the RPM reading was at about 600, then when I switched on the air-cond, it went up to about 800, off the air-cond and it dropped to 600 again. The rough idling was most felt during cold start with air-cond off and when engaged in Reverse gear. So this time I am suspecting that:-

1) the ICV is acting up?
2) some leakages in the vacuum hose?

what can I do...

time to service my ICV after the AFM?

No need to phobia. My ex M43 was superb. It is time to overhaul yr AFM & remember to slightly grind the vane so it will never stuck in future. On idling prob, check out all air hoses, ventilation valve & few thing I cant remember. For me M43 is easy to maintain & less problematic:listen:

Bro, AFM sudah service, done by Jarance, now no phobia to floor the accelarator :p but only problem now is the idling issue... probably have to check all hoses and those that u mentioned. Will have to spend time in doing all this.

Eh, yeah talking abt ur ex M43, now cannot keep up with latest collection lah...u sold yr M43 kah? I only know now u got a very beautiful E39 and E46 ;) please dig out some of ur old records, need your advice on the M43 issue here...thanks

4) Tightened up the steering rack as there was free play (now feels tighter)

Bro, where did u do the steering rack tightening? Which workshop? Or was it a DIY job?

My regular mechanic did it for me, he only tightened it slightly, not too much or else the steering wheel would not be able to turn back.

Just ask your mechanic to do it for you, it's a simple job...

Thanks Russie.
Can u email/PM to me yr mechs address/location? Coz my normal mech insists on me changing the whole steering rack...
I just wanna try the simpler solution first. Only if that doesnt work, only then will I decide to change it.
