hey guys, my car is slowly leaking its way dry. and need some advise quick.1) power steering leaking , mechanic suggested/quoted steering overhaul rm480 and only 90% guarantee there wont be a leak as internal compartment are worn out etc. assuming the price quote for service kit + labour2) oil leak from valve head cover - has change the valve gasket last year october and now leaking again. mechanic said the valve cover bengkok redi, possibly need to replace. could this be possible , what the material of the head valve cover made of ? and any price that i'm looking at ?? what i'm suspecting is too much engine oil in the system. as my earlier service records, it was written 7.7L of engine oil. where service manual says 6.5L. i have brought it up during my last service and he actually poured in 7.7L to make it to full level in the dip stick. and the mechanic said its normal. so curious could this be the reason, too much pressure build up on the oil and leaking through the valve cover . and how much oil do you guys use? please advise guys. thankse36 325i (A)

does it m50? m52?
aha..
1. diy test : get long ruler( pembaris) and do eye inspection on your head cover. this look stupid.. but logically its work. same like to check cylinder head bengkok..
2. oil quantity.. go to different workshop.. get different answer bout oil quantity, experienced this also.
I experienced 10.5L Oil inside my previous m50 engine, and the safe mode is just control the level min-max in oil indicator..
p/s: i do DIY on oil servicing.. dont trust mechanic anymore.

Overhaul will not solve the problem if your shaft is worn, best to get a reconditioned unit or get your original rack checked before you purchase the repair kit.

M50 Valve covers tend to have a manufacturing flaw and leaks eventho after the change of gasket. Try sourcing for the 328i valve cover.

M50 should not take more than 8litres of engine oil if its totally drained from the oilpan.
