Speakers Upgrade
Sunday and Monday nights were spent upgrading the speakers of the ride as some of the speakers are already broken.
The ride originally came with an 10 speakers Active HiFi System:
-- 2 front tweeters in mirror triangles
-- 2 mid-range speakers in the front door
-- 2 woofers in the front door
-- 2 mid-range speakers in the rear door
-- 2 rear woofers
New setup:
-- 2 front tweeters in mirror triangles (Replaced with
Dominations ES61 Exzibit 6.5" 2-way Component Set)
-- 2 mid-range speakers in the front door (Unplugged)
-- 2 woofers in the front door (Replaced with
Dominations ES61 Exzibit 6.5" 2-way Component Set)
-- 2 mid-range speakers in the rear door (Maintained)
-- 2 rear woofers (Replaced with
Macrom M3C 6.5" 2-way Coaxial Speaker)
Why Dominations if you asked me? Well, audited a few German Maestro and Morel sets at almost the same price but none came close. Never tried Helix and Focal ones though.
Budget is around RM1.5k for the front components and the ES61 just fits the bill and my ears.
Dominations might be unknown to some but they have won plenty awards in the EMMA scene.
Am more of a SQ than SPL listener (jazz, pop, live music) hence Dominations just fits my taste. Plus, my old Jap ride was on Dominations D'lite comp set.
Tempted to go for the monoblock amp & subwoofer route for the rear but do not want to sacrifice boot space hence idea was scrapped. Plus, the front comps already provided more than sufficient bass.
However, door cut out is required as magnets of the bass drivers were too huge/long. No modding required on the door panels though. Looks stock from outside.
Crossovers are nicely hidden behind the glovebox (left) and near bonnet lever (right).
Tweeters are larger than stock ones hence have to be place on the dash.
Installation was done by the reputable EA Autoworks in Bukit Jalil which previously did the ICE upgrade for my old Jap ride which I am very satisfied with.
Total amount spent is RM1880 inclusive of everything. Money well-spent as sound quality difference over the stock setup is just so significant. Highs are much more crisp and lows are definitely much much much bassy than stock.
Next up will be the HU which may be the Dynavin E46A or the Pioneer 80PRS. Tempted to go for the Pioneer due to much better SQ but would lose the steering controls unless an adaptor is sourced. Do not require the LCD on the Dynavin but the GPS is definitely a good to have than my current Papago on my iPhone 4S.
Apologise for the crappy photos as taken with an iPhone. Will post a set of better quality photos over the weekend.
Old front woofers
NBTD hence took the engine bay pic
