Check age of tyres. I think Michelin uses the 4-digit code reflecting the week and year of manufacture, i.e., 1504 means 15th week of 2004, engraved on the sidewall. If older than three years, not advisable as rubber hardens with age and may crack under pressure.

Is there any difference between manufacturing countries, i.e tires of the same brand produced in Japan compared with Thailand, for example.BTW, which is more quieter - MXV8 or Preceda?

yes there is a difference... better to get tyres NOT MADE in Thailand... for example, when the 'old GoodYear F1 tyres were brought in (some 10 years ago), it was made in Germany. Reviews were good, then complaints start surfacing when the tyres were made in Thailand.... Situation MIGHT be better now... but generally, there is a quality difference.

guys, i heard a lot of forumers talking about 90% trade left ah, 50% left.... how do i know how much my tyre trade left ah???? any indicator on the tyre?

Theoretically the MXV8 is quieter, I have not compared them with the Preceda, but against the Pilot Sport1, the MXV8 is slightly quieter but not much and if you are driving a 5 series, I doubt you will notice the difference. OF course there is a difference in terms of performance!!As for quality of tires made from Thailand, everyone says those tires are inferior in some ways, personally for me I had no problems with the MXV8 from Thailand. Not sure about other tires tho.Al

Thanks Fabianyee & Al for the responses. One shop was recommending the Yoko C-drive, because it was "made in Japan" i was told.i am thinking of changing my MXV8, but most shops say they don't have Japanese ones anymore, only Thai made. Anybody know where/how much for the Japs?

Tayaria is the retail shop for Kit Loong Bhd which is the sole importer for Michelins. Tel: 7781 5518 ...they are in Jln Tandang PJ.Get an idea how much it cost there & cross check with other Michelin retail shops out there...should be cheaper. A shop in Puchong (shops opposite IOI Mall) sells Michelins ...tel: 8075 9322. I bought mine from there. Hope that helps.

Thanks Stephen. Checked out Kit Loong, they quoted RM400/pc for Thai made MXV8 205/55/16. No Japan made. For 215/55/16 its RM700+ /pc!! Why so huge difference?

Prices are also determine by supply and demand. Odd sizes are usually more expensive. 205/55 is used by many cars while 215/55 is mainly used by Cefiro, while 225/55 is for BMW and other Conti cars.Kit Loong will sell a little more expensive probably closer to the retail price. Remember their core business is not selling direct to consumers but rather to their dealers, as such they must not be seen to undercut them.Check with other michelin dealers around. Also if the prices between the MXV8 and Preceda is pretty close, get the preceda!

I also went to a certain Michelin dealer at Old Klang Road. My donuts given the OK treadwise and age wise. The manuf date is 1102, which means they are already 2.75 yrs, but he said that's still OK for these tires.

try out the shop in Puchong (shops opposite IOI Mall, near UOB Bank, HSBC) which sells Michelins ...tel: 8075 9322. Good price i got i reckon .... RM420/pc all in costs ....they use those metal valves which look good. (If they say cant give you this price, say I (Koh) recommend u lah ....silver 318i shod with Pilot Precedas. ;)

True, indicative increase of 10% according to a tyre shop owner.

Blame it on the invader of Iraq. Oil prices have gone through the roof. He's happy because his family is financed by oil dollars. His VP is happy, as he is the biggest "con"-tractor for the rebuilding of Iraq. This is after the marines get through with destroying everything in their path, friend or foe.

More Iraqis have died during the present conflict than under the Saddam's whole tenure.

And the other Arabs are happy too, they are getting more money for the oil that the Americans have been drilling for them.

Sorry for going off-topic. Just felt the need to vent.
