Freddie has come back on the pricing for the Navigation Portable Plus.

1) Without Maps = RM2000 for the GPS unit + installation kit
2) With maps = RM2400 for the whole set.

Installation will likely have to be done at the dealer. I'm chking with him how much he'll charge for install if he does it.

Its cheaper than what Ingress is charging. How many are interested? Those who will really benefit are owners of cars made after 09/07.

Anybody knows where and how much would it cost me to have gps intergrated to my current Idrive screen?I've got a 530 E60 05'.Thanks guys

i dont think its worth it paying that much for what is essentially a garmin gps. I have the new Nuvi 205W and it works like a charm, without the shark fin, and even with my Vkool tint.

700rm.

Bro, I agree that Garmins are great (I have a few for field work use) and also agree that it's probably going to cost too much to retrofit the Navigation Pro. But no Garmin software can match the local maps, functions and info of the BMW Navigation Pro, nor how seamlessly it fits into iDrive. Recently I had to go into an obscure kampung way up north, in the line of duty. I was amazed that the kampung single lane roads were on the BMW map...complete with obscure names, when there were no road signs in sight! The Garmins had us in the bushland...

Energy, the DVDs are copy protected, so unless you know how to crack, you have to buy the update from BMW.

This must be a new feature for the 2009 DVD. As Energy can attest, there was no copy protection on the 2008 DVD. :listen:

I have to agree with Schwepps, I have used my navigation Pro to get me to some really way out obscure places and it took me right to the doorstep. Also great if you are going to some way off place and need to look for a petrol station etc

Schwepps,

I believe you are talking about the map that comes with the BMW iDrive Sat Nav. In this case I would agree that the built-in sat nav system is superior in terms of integration with the car systems.

Bimmerdude and me are comparing the BMW Portable Navigation System and a regular Garmin GPS. In this case, I cannot agree with your observation on the integration with the car systems. The BMW Portable Navigation System IS essentially a Garmin 760 with a cradle.

I can tell you that where it counts, I can't find any significant difference in content between the MSM (supplied by Garmin), MFM, and City Navigator (also supplied by Garmin). I leave aside functions such as Junction View and Lane Assist. I have not used the Teleatlas Map supplied by BMW for BMW iDrive Sat Nav system.

Ebby37,

My Garmins will do that too.

Oh you're right Saat - I shouldn't cloud the discussion with Nav Pro. BTW, I think Garmins are great value for money, and RM2,600 is a lot to pay for one. We've been using Garmins in our field work from the days of monochrome models. :top:

I think the extra money you are paying for is for the integration with the car. The cradle & harness installation will be clean without any wires . You don't get that if you were to buy the garmin seperately. No one on this forum has this installed so far ? I'm considering getting it. However, from what i read, to have it integrated into your system stereo, your e90 has gotta to be built after 09/07 or the sound will just come out of the built in garmin speakers. My car is the first batch of CKD. Does anyone here know if this qualify ?

Well, i dont think its worth paying just to have a clean look :) And furthermore, how much is the yearly subscription for the map?

I made the jump and went ahead to purchase the portable nav unit . After it was installed, they realized that my car was 2006 and the voice CANNOT be routed to the in car speakers and have to use the garmin speakers or FM transmitter. I returned it 1 week later for a full refund. It was actually a blessing in disguise because i used it for a week and was not happy with it when i compared it with the garmin on my pda phone.

I dun like the apps on the GPS navigation of the new E90 LCIs, prefer the good old trusted, tested Garmin. Mine is a Nuvi205W. My new 325 sports Navigation cannot even autodetect day or night mode. need to manually change theday or night mode.

Bad news guys. The installation kit for the E90 doesn't come with the nice enclosure like that found on the X3. Freddie just confirmed that. Its only a clip holder mounted on the dash. Only the X3 has the enclosure.

In addition, only cars produces after 09/07 can have sound routed to the radio. Else the sound will just come from the GPS device. Bummer!

Freddie will get me the pricing for it for a group buy. At least we know a lot more about this retrofit now.

PM me your email address and I'll send it over. Do share pics with the rest of us once its all fitted :).

Cheers,

How portable is this? Can it be easily removed and keep in the glove compartment or something?

A friend's Camry got broken into in Solaris recently just to steal his GPS unit.

I was in Ingress yesterday to replace my Rocker Cover Gasket. While waiting for the job to complete, I checked out the Portable GPS display unit. Picked Ingress Auto and it showed me the route... to a destination somewhere near the Lexus showroom opposite the LDP at Mutiara Damansara..

I checked with the Ingress parts department and ask the price. Was quoted RM2,500 include installation... and was told they have only 3 sets left!

My worries is the map updates... and the price very steep le. The OEM fittings looks good though with no exposed wires and Bluetooth interface that's wired to our OEM car audio system.

Kit good for other cars too?

Is this kit specific for BMW's only? Can it be installed for other makes of cars?

Thanks.
