as a reference example, my former company manager was Asian veteran champion. he weights I think around 10 kg more than me but even if he starts 2 karts length behind on grid he can still overtake at the end.
Means that the weight factor is neatly negligible?
More important is the skill rite?

That is provided your skill factor surpass your weight gain disadvantage.... that unfortunately for most of us... the tummy skill is better than our hand skill

Then again, practice make perfect,,,, so next round coming up soon

I have been to both Sepang and City Kart, trust me the karts in City Kart are much faster compared to Sepang. City Kart also has wet tyres now :)

Oh ok, I found the City Karting karts quite slow, I used to kart for fun when I was in Melbourne and the karts there are faster and better maintained. I guess the standard of the karting places here are not as good.

City Karting had always been on 80cc and 100cc 2 stroke kart engine.... Sepang is 4 stroke...

City Karting karts are better maintained compared to the rest... Haven't been there for ages...
Rental karts are roll of dice... That's why I would stick around to observe other customers' run first and see which one look like ok before I go pick my kart.... ;)

The main issue was halfway through the session, the chain on my brother's kart snapped. He wasn't allowed back onto the track with a replacement kart because the person in charge blamed his driving for breaking it and said 'you are lucky we are not charging you for breaking the chain, theres only a few minutes left anyway'

Maxxsp and all,

Both Sepang and Shah Alam ( & Langkawi ) are run by the same people.

The Sepang karts ( walk in rentals ) are 150cc 4 strokes and the Shah Alam karts cadet rentals are 80cc. If you can handle the speed, there is also the 100cc Yamaha.

I had been to a few karts tracks around australia and the fastest I had been were on the Yamaha KT100 J engine karts ( round head ) .....these were not as fast as the 100cc Yamaha KT100S karts ( square head ) they rent out at Shah Alam. I heard you can rent the same at Elite too.

So the fastest walk in rental karts I am aware is still in Malaysia.....

In regards to your brother's bad driving - please see how close the rear shaft sprocket is to the ground. The chain wraps around this......which makes it even closer. So if your brother likes to ride RIGHT hand bend curbs.......the sprocket and chain WILL snap when it hits the kerbs. They do get customers who do not understand that a kart is a racing vehicle, not a dodgem car.

I race my own kart since year 2000, so please take it as I am sharing my experience.

Slyder, who is your colleague - the senior champion? I may just know him.....

Maxxsp

I can tell you that City Kart let me continue with replacement kart on our outing above from last Sat. My steering link rod broke on lap 8 when someone spun out in front of me and had a left wheel collision. They picked me up with bike ask me if I want to continue with replacement kart. And I did jump on one to continue the rest for next 3 laps.

So far our experience has been great.

Jules

We need you to add more flavor to the outing. Come and join us! Who know some of us may just catch the bug and race a little more rigorously.. lol!

Jules, its John King principle of Dash Racing.
Yes Agree with jules analysis about the chain braking. Additionally some tend to press the brake and accelerator at the same time. Was told it will snap the chain as well. Never did try to mythbust :p

If not mistaken elite might be using rotax but cant confirm coz never really checked :p

Jules i remember a while back we were talking about having a go -kart session. come come lets have fun. Do you remember who else in that discussion that wanted to go?

Gamenoob i am tentative as well. Or perhaps you can put me and jules to start from the back again during the final for fun :p

Can't remember which karts we got, from what you are saying they might have been 80cc?

Don't jump to conclusions about the driving, the karts were not abused. There is no need for putdowns anyway, you weren't there so what makes you think it was due to bad driving?
