Gearbox problem

Anyone here have any problems with their gearbox on their E90 ? Mine started having problem since around 70k km. When shifting down from 2nd to 1st, it 'clunks' and jerks forward badly. When i am driving and come to a complete stop , my car would jerk forward badly. BMW dealers took a look at it and after resetting the gearbox many times, the problem is still there and they informed me must change gearbox (30k) since they don't rebuilt gearbox. Anyone with similiar experince ?
 
Yup, with my E36 more than a decade ago. Mine would miss gears upshifting. That's when I off-loaded it and swore "never again" :1:
 
I also experienced this problem somewhere around 60k mileage. Countermeasure - rebuild mechatronic , change solenoids and reprogramming will solve the problem. Be careful not to change the mechatronic to recond unit since it will carry a different part no. Mismatch part no will create a problem during programming with ZF transmission software as it will not recognize the part no from different mechatronic.

Facing the same problem.. where did you get yours done ?? need to do mine as well....
 
I believe the 320i, 323i and 325i LCI versions are all using gearboxes from GM, not ZF. It't the GM GA6L45R model.

any suggestion ?? Ive heard of changing the ATF replacing the filter would do the trick...

what kind of oil does a 325i gearbox uses ? or if there is another way ??

Most of the problems with new boxes nowadays is in the mechatronics, as stated by FIRZ67. This is not just with BMW, but also other makes as well as most of the cars use similar parts, e.g. solenoid valves, from the same manufacturer, e.g. Borg Warner. Anyway, do it at a place that knows what they are doing! If all else fails, go to the SC but be prepared to pay la!

Ahmz,

The pre LCI models come with ZF 6HP19 across the range. Maybe the GM gearbox comes with LCI model.

Yeah, that's what I stated earlier. The LCI's are using the new GM transmissions.

Only the LCI runs GM boxes.. the pre LCI are all using ZF 6HP19, including the E60, which comes with repair kits and uses ZF6 transmission fluid for oil replenishment.

The LCI GM boxes no replacement kit and uses Petrol Canada Dextron VI transmission fluid for replacement. I replaced my ZF ATF at 40k km. Did Rubik replace his ATF before?
 
done my atf change, washed the valvebody, upgrade program... and now, my gearbox is smooth... nice !! no such jerking problem, yet........

Where did u get yours done? Did u go to Mscope ?
 
Nope.. coz my car is "under warranty" with the 2nd car dealer.. asked me to go to Mzone in kota damansara... Thanks for the info, will go there the next time..

To make it more fun, the atf change is not under warranty, coz the 2ndUsed dealer said, "BMW said not to change ATF oil for lifetime" so I had to pay it myself...
Then I check for the normal service, turns out that the car engine oil is black ! and there are no coolant, only pure water... Before buying the car, the 2ndUsed dealer told me that the car is in perrfecttt condition... I asked him to service the car... But he said "no need service, just been serviced ma, look at the sticker" ... I took his word.. but..... so I had to do the service myself.. luckily I did some preventive maintenance, thats how I found out that the coolant is only purely water... more money out of me... urghhhhh !

Plus, the absorber is out.. manage to get a warranty for that.. but, there are still some sound when going over bumps... I think the absorber is NG.

And the tyres are out as well... need to change to non RFT...

A hassle when buying a 2nd hand car... But the car makes it worth it....
 
Sorry to point this out but you should have checked before buying, not after....
 
hahaha... yeap.. my fault.. but, it was all blurrry... all that i can think of that time was.. "wow, car great.. must have !"
 
My gearbox now permanant 'jump' whenever i stop. Feels like someone bang you from behind. Worst still, when i switch to 'sport' manual mode, changing from 1 to 2 and back to 1 , whole car 'clunks' forward and back. Previously, resetting the gearbox at dealer allows 2-3 days normal, then back to same problem. Now, reset also cannot. FIRZ67, how much did it cost you to 'fix' the problem ?

Hi rubik,

Last time when i had my solenoid changed and mechatronic serviced, the cost is somewhere ard 4.5k. That does not include the ATF and oil sump change.
