Yes, just replaced the 7 pieces solenoids will do. Go to PKL Motorsports @ Kuchai Lama (goggle for exact address & location) as they have done numbers of such replacement.

thanks Herbert.
im relieved now as no need to fork out rm11k for a new mechatronic, just replaced the 7pcs solenoid.

Sent in my car for regular service. Complained about jerking on downshift from 2nd gear to 1st gear. They found my ATF level has reduced my nearly 2 litres. Some more not covered under BSRI. I'll report back whether the jerking is still there or not.

Worth checking if ATF level is reduced. They said it's normal after a few years. Sealed for life my foot ...

For all BMWs, don't think there is any other way to check AFT oil other than (1) error light comes (2) until your gearbox start giving out symptoms like jerking, rough change of gears, sluggish going uphill, etc etc. It is good practice to ask mechanic to check ATF level, rear axle oil, power steering & brake fluid during every service.

Alias, any idea on how to check the ATF oil level w/o sending it to workshop?

No idea sorry. I think since it's something known to happen, do as Herbert said. Ask workshop to check ATF level every now and then. My car didn't flash any warning that ATF level dropped.

First step I changed solenoids too. But that didn't seem to help so final solution was to replace gearbox :(

But at least everything is fine again... for now! touch wood!

I am surprised that after changing the solenoids, you still experienced the jerking. Which workshop replaced the solenoids for you?

Yes herbert u r right normally after change the solenoid the problem solved.how come the jerking problem still there maybe the work shop guy never done are good job.

After replacement of the solenoids, you need to reset the value of the solenoids & erase any transmission faults with a diagnostic tester. Thereafter go for a test drive and do another similar reset to ensure no error codes.

Replacement of whole auto gearbox is easy plus more profit for the workshop.

yours should be GM gearbox right? wonder compare GM to ZF, which 1 is more reliable>?

well i had the same problem with my e90 lci. after the car was sent to service centre a thorough dognostic was carried out and it was found that there was a leak in the gearbox heat exchanger. as a result of coolant from the radiator leaked into the gearbox. atf fluid was changed with a new heat exchanger but my gear box was already damaged.eventually the gear box had to be changed.

Did you find any atf oil in coolant tank if not it maybe the solenoid valves problem not the gear box spoil

I had this problem with my E92 but now settled after many diagnosis, conclusion , air intake sensor faulty , change that and now I am happy man ever . Problem solved

Hi guys..need some urgent advice. My e90 320i 2008 giving me some problems. When I shift to D, it will take like 4-5 seconds before it starts to move and immediately after; there will be a jerk and the transmission warning light comes out. If I were to off and restart, the warning sign goes of and I can continue to drive as normal. Same problem will occur again when slow down till 1st gear or when stopped at traffic light. Changed ATF, car was in good mood for only 1 day and same problem started. My regular workshop have came to conclusion to change gearbox without any diagnosis. Another one have advised to change mechatronics. Has anyone here faced the same problem? Need suggestions guys...thanks a lot..

Mahend, send to a gearbox specialist. M-Spoce Batu Save is among the better ones.

Get a diagnostic done and report back here.

google "m-scope batu caves"

btw i think your regular shop did the right thing by changing the atf. What was the condition of the old ATF? was there any metal pieces? was there any burnt oil smell present?

looks like gearbox problem to me. if you are lucky, changing the solenoid valve will solve the problem

previously I commented that I have encountered some jerking, but actually it was caused by the sprint booster that I was using,
I switch it at sport mode (green light) all the time, as John from Bomin stated that not recommended to use it as may damage the gearbox.
when I switch it off, no more jerking anymore, has been 2-3 months already since the last jerk.
