Wah rich people woh. So you must be very satisfied with your UDM to purchase another one within a year.

The Audi A4 that we have here shouldn't have much problems as its coming to the end of its lifespan and all previous mechanical issues should have been iron out logically speaking but it shows its age in its interior.

But then I would not be getting an Audi if I were to travel outstation often due to the lack of service centers especially on the east coast side. Getting a BMW or Mercedes would be more sensible to due the more extensive after sales network nationwide.

Go test drive the A4, it's much better in term of sound proof & build quality. BUT, it can't match the UDM driving pleasure in term of handling and fun of driving.

F30 definitely drives better but Audi interior is way nicer. Audi is built for cruising. Boring drive

My cousins Audi a4 (facelift) drink engine oil. Every 2 months top up.

I originally was looking into Audi but I heard a few stories about their engine dying on them within a 1-2 years of owning them.

It's normal for TSFI engine to consume some engine oil. I am speaking from my own experience of owning a golf GTI which uses the same engine. You have to top up the engine oil every one to two months depending on how hard you drive your car. That's not a problem for me considering the horses and the torque that you get from the engine.

I don't think that's true. Audi is a well made car and I have not read or heard about engine failing within 1 to 2 years. The only problem that I read is the reliability issue with their 7 speed DSG gearbox.

One of my friend's brother Q5 engine failed after 1 year. The others I heard through people who has friends that happened to them so I can't really substantiate it but at least I know 1 for sure happened. It may not be a common issue but I wasn't willing to take the risk.

The common issue is of course needing to top up engine oil every so often.

they also have CVT issues (they renamed it Multitronic), my uncle's car requires flushing and parts replaced (8 weeks without his car).

this gearbox is in all their a4 1.8T.

All car brands have their fair share of problems. It's just how much you are made aware of.
BMW forums have the most active and passionate members, they are very sensitive to their cars and can tell if a hair falls on their bonnet parked 10m away. Actually I am exaggerating. And they are also happy to dismantle the whole car, modify the parts and build it up with added accessories if Alicia Key didn't hit the right note through the hifi speakers. Okay this part also exaggerated.

Meanwhile Mercedes and Audi forums are very quiet they count sheeps to sleep and then log off, once every two years and when they drove their cars with 4 flat tyres for 200km and wonder why the the car is a bit noisy and doesn't handle that well, they might log on again to ask some questions. Okay these are not true either.

Anyway I think am talking nonsense now I better go to bed. Nite.

My two cents ...

Which car you buy, what model, what brand, is decided by a mixture of the brain and the heart making that the decision.

The brain will do the maths, see how much you can afford, how much it costs to maintain, how much its re-sale value etc etc.

The heart is an intangible factor because what you want is wholly up to you. Some may want a Mercedes because of its name and prestige. Some may want a Ferrari because of its sportscar status. Some may want a Bimmer because of its sport and thrilling driving. It is a personal choice.

Is one "better" that the other? Not really. If you are a loyal Bimmer fan, no matter how bad it gets, you will still want to drive one.

All I can say it, if you can afford it, the F30 is not a bad choice.
