A couple months back had my intermittent knocking sound looked at. They tighten some connection that made steering much stiffer. So far I had not heard it (touch wood) will continue to monitor over this.

hahahah will take some photos... most people working in bavaria never drive a F30 daily.. so cant really blame them..
but i agree, they should listen to me sometimes...

its the thrust bearing on the top mounting of the front spring.

Bro Alan. Bavarian need your service. Lol.

the noise in the video is not the one i am talking about. the video noise is just a over tolerance on the steering column which just need some tightening at the universal joint or some call it the york... i believe there are some thumping noise as you hit certain humps at some speed.

The sound my F30 makes is similar to knocking sound from worn out lower arm bushes, when going over bumps.

I have both the thumping noise when going over uneven surface and also the steering noise.

Check in with your service guy, my new steering rack (new part code) arrived and wasn't informed until I asked them. They did a swap for me and the knocking noise is now gone. Apparently some owners still experience further knocking a while later even after the swap.

Another thing is that the service center can't do a proper job of alignment if you have aftermarket wheels without bmw's original rims with 5 dimple holes next to the wheel bolts as mounting position for their proprietary alignment system. They hung the system on whatever wheels you have and 'try' to get a decent job done. At least mine seemed fine even when they say it wasn't 100%.

Mind sharing which SC you fix the bearing, technician name and your car number? I've called up my SC in Wheelcorp and the technician is really helpful to check on this solution but a bit info from you will make everything easy. Please don't afraid about the car number as this will goes into the system what have your car been fixed. I am trying to escalate this to the next step so every victim here able to get it solve. Thk

believe it or not.. i found what is the stupid sound which feels like the rack or suspension...

i sent it in for steering rack replacement as most of you did. the the sound seems gone for a while.. then it came back.. i strip off the whole suspension.. including my new titans and changed all the teflon sleeves just to be sure. Damned its still there. strip it second time and and the streering rack as well.. bloody hell it is the thrust bearing on the top mounting of the suspension. it bloody made of plastic and made knocking noise!!!!!!!!!!!! straight away i changed it to the older version from other car that fits the size. lucky richard has it in stock.. wooaaaalahhhh... no more knocking.. i have been bashing the car left right center for a week now and nothing happen,

I just took the car in to FM Autohaus in KK here last week, what they said to me was they cannot fix the issue, there is no parts available yet from bmw Germany, it is a worldwide problem, so nothing they can do till bmw comes our with a solution, and that was it. Is this answer acceptable to you all? To me basically they are saying, 'I will just push this to bmw, I won't even want to try to fix it.'

This was the 2nd time I had it looked at, cause the first time they said it was my h & r springs that caused the noise and asked me to change back to original springs, I knew they have mis-diagnose the issue. Just to prove to them it isn't the springs, I changed it back to original, of cause they didn't reimburse me for the cost in changing back, they even charged me labour for first inspection. Asking refund on anything is just near impossible.

I really don't know why I bought this car from them.

Hey Guys, I just sent in my car for a steering rack replacement. Was suppose to collect in soon but they called me up saying that they're having problem with the coding for my car.

Any of you guys whom had the steering rack changed had to update a new software? Apparently this consist of my i-Drive and it seems that I need to update the ECU as well. Is it because there is set of calibration instruction for different EPS? Tried to ask them why they need to update the ECU, but they kept insisting it's like your iPhone that it needs to be updated. -_- They don't even know how to explain to me why is there a need for update.

Also, just a curious question. I thought all new N47 ECU are locked even from BMW dealers? That is why the new PPK comes with new ECU instead of flashing the ECU like old PPK. Just curious as they need to update my ECU as well.
