F30 - "knocking" sound from steering/absorber

..that's whats happening when German car is assembled in South Africa..no disrespect, but it just doesn't work out right..

mugz, you'll notice the sound when your car roll over any bump or pothole.

I've collected my car after yet another round of parts replacement. It's the steering rack and bushings on both front this time. The noise has been reduced tremendously and although it still appear once in a while going through bumps, but this is acceptable. My car feels much better now.

I was informed by SC that the cars come from Germany and not SA.

im facing the same prob too. they have changed my car with new steering rack (after waiting for 2 month) and the 'knock' sounds still there. getting fedup since i thought my car will be in a good cond after changing the steering rack. now need to book for another appoint and im not sure which part need to be changed next.. anyone can confirm either the bushings need to be changed as well....?? regret to buy f30!!!!!

Dun be upset la, it's a UDM. So many say the sheer driving pleasure makes all the frustration worth it. Than sikit la ...

My car also have this problem but not too obvious.
Only when drive over rough surface or hump while corner to the left...right turn is ok

There is still no word on this problem. I'm not sure if any new revision is being done to the design to rectify the problem.

If this problem is due to design, I hope BMW would acknowledge it and take responsibility for it.

No need to be rocket scientist to know the answer la. Got problem, got warranty so rectify it. Why wait till it gets worse? If BMW dun announce you wanna live with it ker? Dun make sense to allow a problem to continue getting worse right? Makes the car not class la. Krok krok krok as you drive ...

My concern is the service centre cannot identify the source of the problem or need to trouble shoot item by item since the problem is intermittent. This may take too long or result is unnecessary down time or even damage to other parts as a result. That's why I thought I should wait for the problem to get more serious or let BMW identify the problem from other cars before I send my car in. That's my idea.

This may take too long or result is unnecessary down time or even damage to other parts as a result. That's why I thought I should wait for the problem to get more serious or let BMW identify the problem from other cars before I send my car in. That's my idea.

A most interesting one I must add ... Once the steering gets really bad then it must be easy to identify right?

Does steering leaning towards one direction consider bad enough? I don't know if this is related to the steering rack but I noticed my steering sometimes lean to the left side. Or, it could be the road surface. Or, is that the case of a bad alignment?

One easy check on alignment. If you drive in a car park with a cement floor, when you make a turn and the car is moving, do the tyres squel? If it does then alignment needs to be done. If the tyres are squealing even when you are going straight, then the alignment is really badly out.

Thanks bro for the info. But I do not hear any squealing sound under the situation you mentioned above. Maybe its due to the bad road condition of our city.

Klang Valley roads are getting from very bad to worse. I do balancing and alignment at the shop next to my office for both my cars at least once in 3-6 months. It always surprise me how much better the car feels after alignment. I just wish I can claim against Gomen for the rubbish roads they allow. Developed nation status la, high income nation status la, my arse

I think tire squeals on a cement floor is because of the tire soap after car wash.
Best to check alignment is just driving straight on an even road, and gently letting go both hands.

It may not be long until the preferred vehicle to be pickup just like our neighbour country, Thailand. Many ppl drives a pickup and they can abuse the road as much as they want with minimal damage to the vehicle.
