Recent damage on my E60:-

1 set of rear brake pad (ATE brand) RM190.00
1 pc of rear disc pad sensor RM65.00
1 pc of Battery GP RM450.00
1 pc of radiator cap (the rubber lining at the cover of the ori cap was broken) RM75.00

The ori BMW battery was changed although it was functioning though the cranking sound when starting engine is getting longer. Beside some of the electronic gremlins are beginning to show up eg. power window sign. So to be safe and sure, better change to a new one. The new battery was not registered. Only have to reset the date and time and re-initialise the active steering as per the manual. Other data like saved radio stations etc are all intact. No more electronic gremlins with the new battery.

Only one prob remains. The active steering's fault sign ("active steering initialising...") keeps coming up, say about once in 3 engine starts. Though it will eventually disappear after about 3 min of driving, it is still pretty annoying.

Went to check with a mechanic who advised me to leave my car with him so that he can bring his computer to the alignment shop to do a proper re-alignment before recommending other more expensive remedies like changing the active steering control unit or the steering angle sensor. But couldn't find time to leave my car whole day for him to test the alignment. Meanwhile have to endure the sweet and nice warning bell when the active steering sign appears to greet me.

Based on your milage, I suggest you change your ATF and filter

Yes bro ... no indication of failure , doesnt mean u dont need to service it. ur gearbox routine is someting like ur engine too. constantly working while ur engine is running . When ur engine need service , surely ur Gb needs too. get it serviced. infact you should have doe it around 60k .If everything is done correctly while changing the oil , it should end up good. Just make sure u dont land it on a wrong hand. check out for a reliable one .best of luck .

Thanx, bro Jerman. I will try there next time. By the way, what's the damage there? Since today I'm in sunway, so I decided to go to ks auto for service. Total damage today:- ravenol 8L -rm448, air filter-rm98, oil filter-50, labor+diagnostic-50= rm 646. Is the price reasonable?

WP Auto now with a new bigger workshop is no longer competitive in pricing as it used to be. Further more, feedbacks from a number of WP Auto regular customers indicated poor workmanship. I believe the WP Auto owner Albert has taken things for granted leaving most of the work to his not so knowledgeble mechanics.

........+1

I was just about to pay them a visit. Sheesh. Hard to find a decent workshop nowadays.
Thanks for the heads-up. To those workshops out there, beware!!!

Hi Louiswaw, I know there are several opinions out there that falls to the 50/50 decision on this. As for me, I changed mine recently at 125k upon the recommendation of my mechanic sifu. I hardly drive my car so imagine my scare when I had a 'super acceleration' when I stepped on my pedal to overtake someone on the road. It's like new found power in my gear changes and thus I held back the acceleration and the shifts became more prominent. Since I had a costly lesson on my GB with my e36 before I know that it could spell certain $$$.

I quickly read up on all issues regarding this again and decided to take my car out today. No issues whatsoever now. i guess I was just surprised at the surge of power with the gear changes when I stepped on the pedal. I drove my normal driving style today (always with my wife and daughter so more sedated) and no issues at all with my gear changes. Phew! :)

Herbert,
Did you had a bad experience lately? I was there last week and Albert & Leong were still as attentive as before. Albert even repaired my stuck CD player . Yes, he took in an extra help but only for the standard job. As in everything which has gone up these days, WP Auto's pricing is still reasonable.

Affan, pay Albert a visit and then decide:wink:

Jerman,

A few of us including me had bad experiences with WP Auto. To be precise, it was about shoddy workmanship, the tidak apa & the forever so busy attitude of the owner Albert. Just to give you an example of WP Auto's shoddy work.....an OM (a regular WP Auto's customer) with a e38 serviced his car prior to an outstation trip with me. Halfway through the journey & me following the e38, I noticed a large cover was dangling loosely underneath the e38 and was scraping the road surface. Managed to find a tyre shop and hoisted up the car and found that the engine's oil deflector cover wasn't tighten properly during the service. We were doing 170km/hr to 190 km/hr and hate to think of the grave consequences should the large cover dropped off from the e38. I can go on relating more shoddy works of WP Auto but guess it would be better I limit it to just one example.

I would never complain about the slightly higher pricing being charged by WP Auto as long as I am assured of quality workmanship. Being reasonable priced does not equate to giving customer a shoddy work. I am sure most BMW owners are quite a meticulous lot when it comes to their car and we don't like to be short changed so to speak. We pay for champagne and we expect to be served with champagne and not any fizzy drink.

Over a period of 2 years, I have personally recommended many customers (OM & club guest) to WP Auto as I thought more business for him would relate to hiring more skill mechanics thus improvement of workmanship, investment in up-to-date diagnostic set, more organize work attitude etc etc. Sadly instead of doing just that, he became complacent, moved to a new bigger workshop and took his customers for granted.

So bro Jerman if you do visit WP Auto again, you can relate to Albert about this post. Hopefully he will take it with a pinch of salt and come up with some improvements.

Thanx bro Herbert , I was thinking to give wp auto a try for my next service. Eemm it seems I have to wait n see at their attitude first before going there for my next service. Appreciate for ur post as this will save our hard earn $$$$.

Thats is always the scenario with BMW workshop nowadays. I've been changing workshop many times till feel fed up. They think its easy for us to spend our hard earned money. Hopefully my current mech will stay good for long time.

Hi all bros,

I changed my battery to delco 100 (not 88) and was charged RM595 all-in last weekend. Is that a reasonable price or have I been conned? :)

Thanks

Pete

That's about right for normal batteries :) Original ones are AGM type and costs above RM1K. I have 2 units for sale (warranty units, quite new and literally not used) if anyone wants. For E60 we should use 90AH if I remember correctly.
