well got my car last monday and now it is back to the dealer for some transmission problem - it seems to jerk to 1st gear when i come to a quick stop. and when i press too hard it jerks to the next gear. when i set to reverse it jerks as well. reseting the programmes seems no use . my guess is that the gearbox is gone.. but i have got 6 months warranty so no issue with that.
otherwise my thumbs up for this superb car ! only thing missing is the nav CD for malaysia ... anyone care to elaborate ?

If you don't get yourself into big trouble I would say anyone who can afford to maintain an E60 should not have any problems maintaining the E65/66. Big trouble means if you accidentally hit a huge pothole, the amount you are going to pay is around RM40K for the whole suspension setup (one side only). Now the price of a decent looking E66 has dropped below RM300K, I am a bit surprised why none of our forummers want to consider this car. Shy maybe? Or probably they don'y want to be called a 'driver'. If you ask me personally, I don't give a damn. Mind you, the price of the car was RM850K when it was first launched. Damn good buy.:top:

Wow, was also thinking why not many 7 series on the street and been seeing a lot of 04 with good price. I guess, the "RM40k" one side is not something any 5 series owner wanna maintain. this really turn me off, when I read till this line.

had the gearbox changed . it feels ok now, no more jerking... anyway i just checked and the suspension change is not that expensive.. less than 1k for my model.. non airmatic type.. but i still feel that with more cars on the road the price will go down...
anyway the ride is of top quality . solid and agile. good cornering capabilities... enjoying every moment of it.

Sorry, I forgot to mention that this is for the airmatic type. I believe that you can always change to normal type. So, what are you waiting for? Buy! Buy! Buy! :top:

Is your gerabox still under warranty? How much did you pay for it? As for the CD, the malaysia/singapore CD is going to cost you around RM2K. If I were you I would consider installing garmin using the existing TV screen. Total damage RM5K the most.

I can use a Garmin and use the existing screen? That's interesting. The last time I wanted to incorporate a satnav into my system, I was given a quote of RM23k!
Can I know where I can get it done?

There's a Garmin dealer in Damansara Utama that can do the job. The price quoted was about a year ago. It should be cheaper now.

funfer_fahrer: Back late last year when i had my E46 M3, it had the navigation system in the boot too.

A workshop owner somewhere in Damansara (ill PM you the name if you need) burnt me the maps for free. :)

And it worked!

Only thing was the map wasnt current and when i drove in my housing estate which is relatively new, it showed me driving thru green hills.

Instead of shelling out 2k for a new map, maybe a few E65/66 owners can get together and pool their resources to buy the CD and burn copies if it works?

Does it work for the E66?

the auto transmission is still under warranty so i got mine changed for free..
But i think i have to change the tyres soon , the treads are getting thinner by the day..
the existing yokohama tyres are quiet .. how about other brands ?
by the way , conering capabilities are excellent..!

They changed the whole box? Good thing you had it under warranty :)
The downshift jerk into first is apparently a common thing for E65's, I had it on mine, and they reduced it (but not completely solved it) with the replacement of the guibo joint.

One year later, i had my gearbox overhauled, cost 8k for overhaul another 4k for "body valve" , don't know what that is but still have to pay anyway, including the mountings, and extras, all amounting to 14k....14k for the chinese new year this year..I did not want to have a replacement gearbox because i would not know the condition ... an overhauled gearbox is as good as a new one, correct ?
the replaced gearbox failed after 6 months .no more warranty ...
It seems the gear box issue is common among E65 owners...
On top of that i have the CAS module channged for 3k last year due to remote key cannot activate the remote boot ...
on top of that some oil leaks, and minor repairs and oil change ,etc.
Tyre change , etc.. I have already spent more than 20k on this babe.. but no regrets.... hope that there will be no more big expensive repairs later this year...

cheers to all ...

The car is a very very refined beast. She cruises silently but also roars. I think it's worth every penny. Safety standards are beyond par. And comfort levels are above luxury. All in all, a well packaged automobile. And boy, she's fast.

Hi Funfer, I have checked even airmatic type will cost about RM3k+ per side (part only), have to change both side together and with labour cost will total about 8k-10k. You changed for RM40k per side?

It's 2011 september
update on 735i
Frequent Trips from Penang to KL and back .. average speed 180 to 200 km/h . Did touch 230-240km/h sometimes... Ride comfort and feeling is priceless.
Maintenance - usual oil/filter changes .etc.
Parts changed : small items, no major parts as compared to the previous gearbox issue..
Tyres : changed 3rd sets already..average 1 year 1 set..
What do i think ? -- Hoping that the automated speeding camera system would not commence so soon because i would have lots of speeding tickets everytime i drive to KL and back..

Owned a facelifted E65. It is a cruiser, refined and yet pushed can beat the shits out of sedan cars on the road. The beast can roll and when it does, cars give way even faster cos it is huge. Once a while, I will give it a good run on highways. Nice controlled feel. Of course, if you want something really raw, then this wont be the car for you. This is the car to be driven and to drive too as long as you thought you grown out of raw speed. I thought I had it but nope, I still want the adrenaline rush. Had fun with it for less than 1 year but it is altogether a different class and different feel. An experience to be enjoyed nevertheless.

hey .. i have the e66 730li .. i know its the lowest range of the 7s but trust me its enough . such an amazing car . in terms of looks and interior it just tops the chart.. well my chart atleast. my car is pure stock . no changes .. love it the way it is . such a graceful car, in and out. Amazing long distance cars, from kl to penang or even further with such ease and comfort . going at 170km+ on highways with passangers sleeping away in the back seats . now that is comfort! haha . Well, as much as i loved the e66, im going for the new F02 730li. Interior of the f02 just won me over .. the looks still debatable. Not too sure which still looks better, they both look so good ! the e66 has served me well . what a delight.. apart from uneducated people delibrately scratching my car and even took off the beamer logo on the hood ! haha .. anyway . what a please . pure joy of driving .
