I recently sent in my E60 520i to AB complaining that my car is not responsive especially when you want to accelaate from low speed cruising, you will feel a brief moment that the car does not react. The explanation I got for the problem is due to the new gear box design that it was slow in locking and unlocking every time the gear shifts, particularly in low gear.Anyway, AB claims that BMW is now developing a software to rectify the problem but they got a newer version than the one that comes with my car when I got it in April 05.After the software update, I can immediately feel the gear box is much more responsive even on low gear, I got the ture feeling of driving a BMW! However, I can't wait to try out the newer version they are developig as claimed.Any E60 520i owner who encounters the same problem should go for the software update.

Very interesting indeed!
Guess the software must have tweaked some settings in the ECU?

Kiapeng,

Which AB outlet did you get this done.

Cheers
Sg Besi branch, look for service advisor Arnesh

I complained about this on my E46 and they (AB SgBesi) also did a software download. It felt good for the first week but now its back to its usual quirk. Tell me if this happens to you 2 weeks later.

Wondering if this auto characteristic is specific to 520i?
apparently it is, even AB service personnel said so

so far after the update, I only have transmission jerk once, I will see how it goes, but the response did improve. Prior to this, the jerk probelm is bad, you often experience delay in response when you accelerate from low speed cruising.

Kiapeng,

Hows your car since your last post. I am going to take my car into AB. I am driving on manual mode now since the lag in the auto mode is getting on my nerves.

Cheers

it was very good in the first month, thereafter, the jerk and lag problems come back. Although the problems are not as bad as before, I still cannot tolerate them. I mean, you do not pay over 300k to get this sort of driving experience.

During my last visit to the workshop they told me they they are about to have a software to rectify the problem, I am yet to find out as I intend to send my car in to let them sort it out.

kiapeng,

I wonder why the symptoms recur after a month? Peculiar. Once it has been solved, shoudn't it stay solved. Thanks

I totally agree with you, since it is software, the problem should go away permanently. I am finding out from AB

have you ever enquired from AB what is the solution to rectify the problem ? I assume you bought your car from them.

I spoke to them and they claim that there is a new software to be avail in Jan 06, they ask me to bear with them for a while.

Kiapeng,

Yes, purchased my car from AB Glenmarie. I haven't questioned them as yet, but will do soon enough. Will let you know the outcome.

Cheers
