Worst case scenario Gbox overhaul is only 6 to 7k only for a 5 speed tiptronic BMW. You go and ask Japs car GB overhaul cost la then u know how cheap and good is German engineering

hi.

my e39 hav shown engine, abs, asg n gb lights..ive made my way to mspeed to fix the error..this is wat ive repaired.

1) ABS control module (labour,encoding & troubleshooting) RM1800.00
2) Front ABS sensor & labour 2pc RM560.00
3) Rear ABS sensor & labour 2pc RM600
4) Ignition coil 5pcs & labour RM 600.00
5) Spark plug & labour RM 150.00
6) Accelerator Cable & labour RM 100.00

Total damage RM 3810.00 Less 60.00 = RM3750.00

number 2 - 6 diy would be much cheaper

I wonder how do you guys have the confident on making diy attempts especially with mechanical items? I do understand that there are some vids & threads online to assist. But being not so lucky with diy myself, what do you think ppl like myself should look for first, but mostly to gain the confidence.

u just need to know a bit about car to realize some of them are actually talking nonsense. next, if u go to fix something and they end up breaking other things in your car and to add more salt to the wound they even charge u to replace the broken things they did just like my case it is really a PITA.

Hence, your suggestion is, its better for you to try and experiment first. If trial becomes an error, then seek for assistance? Wouldnt that be super expensive then? Being in such a desperate situation, I am sure the mech would slaughter you with "ridonculous" price!

don't simply try la. first need to read/watch and learn how to do. with some guts and appropriate tools u then start to diy. i am not saying workshops are bad all the time, maybe just some times and we are unfortunate to be there at that time & place. go if you are comfortable with them and stop if you are not.

not only here bro. a very good thing about bmw community it is so global. just google "how to bla3" then many handy links will surface. bmw parts themselves are not that expensive if compared to other japs makes. i know because i owned a civic before. it becomes expensive only if you get it through workshops.

Moots,

That is a very good price for a pair of Brembo front disc rotor. Where is it manufactured & do give us your feedback after you had your usual run-in.
