:DHi Bros and Sifus,Am quite new in BMW cars....... am currently learning from friends who owns E36, E46 and E39. I have been in-decisive for the past 3 and 1/2 months as to which model to buy. Lots of my Friends who own E39 and E46 advice me to ge E36, because E36 has less problems and a good platform to start in BMW..........Can any bros help me to sort this issue out ar:D......... Is there any listing of common problems in E36, E46 and E39 model...........:pI have a budget of 150K to get a car........still i am very ..............Thanks Bros an SifusREgards,BS:rolleyes:

Go, go, go for E36. Less Problem & save a lot of $$$ to get body kits, rims & performance acc...

If you r looking for E36, mine is for sale :D
E36 328 1997
pm if interested

With 150K, u cannot get A e36, u can probally get 3 e36............

IMHO, if you have a budget of RM150k, why not go for a much newer unit, now E36 at least more than 8 yr old. As wear and tear and maintainence costs will increase over year, it would much safer to buy a later model. Of coz, it does not mean that newer car will certainly less problem, but it may have a better chance to avoid a lemon.

Probably get someone who knows BMW well enough to go together with your search, i am sure you can get something your really like.

ps: I dun own BMW yet, but based on my personal opinion. Dun flame me, ok! :)

Congrats.

Hi Bro,

Congrats on your new purchase.

any details on your new ride ar?

Regards,

BS

hi bro...

very sincere question... well i just got my e36 328ia 1997 model in jan 2006. was in yr shoes as well... my suggestion will be to stick with e36 328ia and 1997 model... price range between 58k to 68k depending on your research... be prepared with around 5k to send to a good workshop to change all the wear & tear items... make sure yr engine and gear box is fine...

as for e46 and e39... great machines too but the feel is different already... tested a few but did not feel the hmmmppphhh... furthermore the maintenance on both the machine are greater... eg rear bushing for e39 will cost you around 4k because you will have to change the whole set...

with a budget of 150k:

1. 1 e36 328 ia 1997 - 65k
2. maintenance service - 5k
3. upgrade - 15k

only 85k... safe 65k for another e30 to make it as project car...

Thanks

:)Hi Sifus and Bros,

Thansk for all your advice and sharing of experince.

Since your budget around 150k, get a E-36 M3, then you have everything there.

Allow me to share my experience as an ex-owner of E36 and current owner of E46.

The E46 is a more rounded, more comfortable and user friendly car. A lot aluminium, so it is lighter. But when it comes to the core driving experience, I don't think E46 is any improvement over E36.

I still miss my E36 though it was heavier (hence more stable in highways and when cornering) and need more muscle power to drive. It was a lot more reliable (due to more mechanical nature of its engineering) and cheaper to maintain. The E46 is easier to drive but too much on electronics (a lot of sensors). But the technology is not yet matured so the reliability is lower and price higher.

In final analysis, you are looking for a comfortable car without demanding too much on the driving dynamics, then E46 would be perfect. The ladies will like to drive it as it is a lighter and more feminine in design. But you like to push the car hard, then E36 is a better choice. However in that case 325 version would be choice.
