Updates...

From chop shop around Klang Valley, the refurbished steering racks goes from RM1200-RM1500 each cash & carry, with 1 to 2 weeks guarantee plus trade in ur old unit.

This issue is easily rectified if the cause of the problem is th e steering column!

guys,

Thanks for discussing on this matter. i'm starting to have the same problem lately and it's very irritating (and it's less than 3 yrs old car)...

Since i still have the warranty, I better get it fixed. However, can we firmly sure that changing the rack will provide solution?

I just want my mech to zoom in to the problem so I wouldn't have to make multiple workshop visits.

Thanks!

rgds,
cHem!

helloo have u all registered for AD...its just 2 weeks away

bmchai, have u got your issue fixed? Sorry couldn't try mine on 4th aug TT as i was travelling, just got back last week.

Yo Guys,

Went over to Dr Ah Meng to seek his opinion with regards to the ratling issue on my car...........guess watt

Dr Ah Meng drove the car for a short distance, then told me the noise impact is minimal.......learn how to live with it....and to utilise the money to do a transmission flush and change oil coller.........

ha,ha,ha.....guess have to just live with the noise until it becomes unbearable...

Gents, just wanted to re-ignite this topic. Has anyone had a final solution. I've read from repair kits of RM800 to overhaul at RM2k and another solution of knocking some "sense" into the spindle to straighten it.

Quite pissed off that it is happenig to a

Yo man Tank,

cool it bro.........i know wat u mean...........had the same feeling when i heard it on my car when it was abt 3 1/2 years.......but i lived with it so far.......

anyway i know that they sat Karl Benz in mayang say they can knock it back.......maybe i shall go there this week for a consultation first

Hey Nathan,

do let us know the outcome, spending any money on a problem that should not exist on a Beemer is quite depressing....

Also, when I found this problem about 1 year back, I went to AB Glenmarie to get their help to sort it out. The did some "tweaking" on the steering spindle (perhaps padded it with foam) and the "knocking" sound was acutally significantly reduced. Otherwise I would have had it even with very small pot holes. Now, I just get in on very badly damaged/potholed roads and it is also very prominent when driving up or down ramps.

NKTOB, it seems like most of us were experiencing this problem just after the 2 year mark. (I started to experience this just slightly after 1.5 years). So if you replace with a new part, does that mean getting this problem again after 2 years again.

Sorry, just playing Devil's advocate here. Unless it's some sort of fault which they have rectified with the new parts???

Keeping my fingers crossed bro...:) And hope it's otherwise...

Anyway, my ride is Yr2000/2005...I guess it's about time.

To my best of knowledge, I reckon it's the bushings & whatever that's in the whole steering housing that's given way due to wear & tear. And they don't come in little parts like a repair kit to get them changed!

That's y, I have no other choice then to order a complete new set! :(

Yo,

Just read in the other forum, a memeber was suggesting just to change the swaybar link and no more noise - RM300

Anyone here tried it before????

Guys,

Bringing this old thread back up again. My car's steering seems to feel very loose during cornering and also it doesn't really track correctly even after alignment was done. Sometimes it drifts left, sometimes right....any idea what's wrong?

U-coupling?
Steering column?
Steeering rack?

previously i had the same problem with my e36, when i turn my steering there will be klok klok sound, when i checked with mspeed i saw there is a leaking from the steering rack, ahmeng told me that can try the repair kit but no guarantee which cost Rm450, after replaced it has the same problem, only thing it does not leak anymore, he told me to replace a new one cost 2k+, i checked with CSS jalan ipoh he quoted me Rm800 Reconn set, we need to trade in our old parts with him

I also have a klok klok sound on my steering. Mechanic said it was a steering bush. Will look at the later this month. But according to him bush is cheap but labour to take the steering a part to change it is a bit more expensive. So keeping my fingers crossed.
