Hi. I earn RM4k per month and I will be using my car for sales.
My average mileage per month is around 3500KM per month.

Is the e36 325 a suitable car for me considering my salary and the nature of my job.

Total you the truth, I also earn salary as much as you do, I'm married and got kid, and I got E36 too...318i that the only model that I can afford for the time being.

Actually it doesn't cost you much to own an E36 but you need a careful planning on your salary. Another thing, when you buy the car get a good and reliable workshop to maintain your car...do it step by step. Don't just go to any workshop even the one might claim as BMW specialist. This is what had happened to me, wasted a lot of money on stupid workshop when i first bought my car.The labour charge of the workshop that killing you, not the spare part cost. Any repair do it step by step and pay cash, try to avoid using credit card.

hmm this guy really good in math. But i wonder how come major repair rm1-5k every 6-12 months? if you already spend like 10k...thats consider alot and most of the major parts already change. apa benda that will rosak every year that need to do big major repair.

hmm...how come those young generation guys buy the car when they only as young as 22 years old...hmmm

Let's see...

1. steering rack
2. gearbox
3. alternator
4. power steering pump
5. starter
6. aircond compressor
7. aircond cooling coil
8. resistor
9. instrument panel
10. abs? (some models only)
11. vanos? (some models only)
12. fuel pump
13. catalytic converter?
14. exhaust
15. chassis - creaks and cracks
.....

Not to mention regular wear and tear items....

All the above are non-minor. The 325 at its newest (1995) is around 11 years old or more. So, periodic failure of parts due to old age is commonplace.

..hey there duck...maintenance will be the bulk of you expenses...In Malaysia it is best to send the car for servicing or for any repairs, at the authorised dealer no matter what car you drive...At the very least, you have a warranty & an email to BMW in Germany (if you drive a BMW), guarantees prompt attention by their Malaysian counterparts....so far Auto Bavaria in Malaysia have done a great job with their loyal BMW owners...

...if you send your car to a 'specialist', there could be more damage than benefit in the end, even if you are doing slight after sales modifications...unless of course Alpina sets up shop in Malaysia...

...only you will know how to manage the expenses of your car but whether it's to be used for pleasure, business or otherwise, the maintenance costs will be the same, according to the proportionate wear & tear of usage although if you can claim form your business, it becomes a little less dearer on your own wallet...

;)

..Hi safrul...too long under the 'kelambu' (car covers) is also not good for your car...the oil & other 'bodily fluids' will eventually 'poison' the car & the subsequent repairs will be painfully tremendous...

...drive the car & get to know it...eventually you will learn many things about your car as you send it for servicing, but only if you send it to the right 'doctor'...

...but be a careful & defensive driver & the pleasure of owning & driving performance cars will be thoroughly enjoyed....

i like you lah bro...me too, my daily drive is kelisa 1.0 auto...NBx 7770 :D

hi! rm4k is a little tight if it is for daily use, and have to depend on reliability. i make bout' 14k and still feel the pinch. of cause with your ride you'd want a quality life too, not just to pay your bills and maintainance. well that's just my opinion.

Bob: I'd say go for it. But remember, just because you dont have any commitments now, doesnt mean you wont have any commitments in the future.

Sigh. I dunnolah. I think you guys should save up to buy house first. Then save the rest of the money. Invest in some basic instruments to get a good return later on in life. BMW is actually quite expensive to maintain regardless of income coz the money could have been better spent elsewhere. Really. Listen to an old man (ok am only 34 but enough years going through the financial pains and gains). If people knew what I earned, I sure kena racun habis habis. :p And would probably succumb to it one day. Thats why I need to shut up now.

BUT, if you really do have the spare income and have put aside for everything else, THEN go get one coz MAN! Its such a fantastic car to drive. Its not as fast as dedicated sports cars but its SOOOO comfortable to drive. Once you start cruising, quite frankly you really dun wanna stop. Even the e36 318i feels damn nice and better than most Japo cars out there.

My 2 sen.

Go for it. DOn;t wait until you are 70 and start planning to get it. Live ife to the fullest.
