My car is e30 m40 b16 autoHi, i'm wondering if any sifus here can help me rectify with my problem. My problem is at higway speeds with revs above 4000rpm, my temperature gauge rises from 1/2 to 3/4 mark and it stays there if i maintain the revs above 4000rpm. Could my radiator be clogged or could i have a minor leak in head gasket? Normal drive my temperature is a minute below 1/2 because i'm using 80deg thermostat. I dont think my temp. sensor is the problem because at exiting toll my high speed fan turns on indicating that my water is hot. Cruising at 110-120km/h will drop my temp back to 1/2 way mark but takes quite some time also.Another thing is that, my auto transmission oil spluttered out from the dip stick area messing my engine with transmission fluid, could it be overfilled? Just changed the transmission fluid last month.

Sounds like it's time for a new waterpump.......or maybe try a new radiator cap?

Gee kevs my water pump is only 1yr 1month and and it is metal impeller type, my rad caps is less than 6mths, thermostat is new also. I was playing around with the thermostats recently, changing from 88deg C to 80 deg C to see the temperature gauge effects. But still the same problem at high engine speed for both thermostats. Coolant hoses are new also. What the f@#$ is wrong. I suspect my radiator is not efficient enough due to deposits built up inside. I have flushed the radiator 3 times already within a year and no sign of sludge coming out. Could it be my radiator is not able to hold high pressure at high temp. because there is a seepage between the expansion tank and radiator during cold start, but no leakage once the engine is at operating temperature. This is really haunting me. What do u think?Try changing radiator perhaps?

Try checking your clutch fan and aircon fan...see if they are running properly.

Fan clutch working fine, no overheats at jams. Temp between 1/2 and 3/4 if heavy jams the most. Air con fan also working properly, high speed kicks in once reaching between 1/2 and 3/4 because i'm using a 80/88 deg thermal switch.

If thats the case, the only option is to replace the radiator and see if the problem persist, as i see you have changed and tried all means..except for the radiator.

best of luck

my e30 m20b20 osso used to exhibit high temps at sutained hi speeds on the hi way (3/4 on the temp indicator).during normal drives, even in traffic jams or long idles, temp is normal below mid mark.
sent the rad to a rad specialist in jalan klang lama for overhaul.(it was leaking as well)they replaced the gaskets and cleaned the internal and external cooling fins.now can whack hi speed at hi way with temp indication at mid mark.......no higher.

Yup looks like it also, that will be my next list to do.
If I may suggest, try physically scouring the radiator tubes first..cheaper than buying radiator. :D

AHHH moots u give me some light ehhehee, err 2sen how to scour?Use baking powder mixed with water can or not then soak the rad overnite?hehehe.
Elwine, engine still healthy, no signs of internal leak. No white blue smoke, engine oil consumption drop a little bit below the high level after 7000km of travel.

TQ Sir

for a minute there..thought could do a diy :D
Would flushing it with radiator flush accomplish the same thing?
Tq :D :D

Ah bin ther, done dat. In my case, it didn't work very well until I sent it to the workshop. They dismantled the whole radiator & opened up one of it's sides & rodded the tubes from end to end to clear out the gunk. Took about 3 hrs in all.
After refitting, it ran cool alla time even in traffic jams. :)

lucky you...my auto trans oil overfilled over the exhaust cat....smoke in the water lah at highwayss....

like titanic steam engine mannn.... can't imagine the amount of ATF covering the waja behind me, considering that the ATF splashed right up to my rear windscreen... :D

johorean ke ersalle...?
