If you don't want a VIOS to tapao u at night on the highway just because you can't see the road ahead due the poor low beam upper range illumination, please make sure you do this.. :DThis is a DIY for E90 headlight beam height adjustment.Tools required:1. A cross head screwdriver or 6mm Allen key.2. Some masking tape.3. BladeStep 1: Identify the headlight beam height adjuster screw, it's located behind the headlight assembly, facing up, very easy to find.Step 2: Cut/tear a small piece of masking tape and mark a line with a pen.Step 3: Stick the masking tape on the edge of the screw to mark its position, then use a blade to slice the masking tape to free the upper part which can rotate with the screw.NOTE: Anti clock wise higher beam throw and vise versa. Recommendation is 3 x 360 degree turns anti clock wise. I just did one turn and leave the masking tape there so can adjust if I'm not happy.I have no problem with my passenger side head light, so I just adjusted my driver side headlight. The screw. Can use either the 6mm Allen key or the Philip/cross head screw driver. I prefer using Allen key because confirm won't slip and damage the screw, and easy to count the turn.

The masking tape marker. See carefully how the masking tape is sliced in the middle.

This is where the screw is located.

I think by now, Astroboy can write a comprehensive DYI book for E90.

And also another book called "Tips and tricks - What the dealer didn't tell you" :adore:

wow, good DIY AB.... sure can see frogs and water filled potholes...

Astroboy, I am afraid u might need to adjust both of the headlights to work best. I also notice your headlight socket cover is missing (the wires are exposed). Check the other side of the headlight, then u will know what i mean.

HUh?! Socket cover missing? Sure boh?! I thought normal for today's BMW mah... ease of maintenance... no need cover.. :p

Thanks for the tip... will check it out tonight.. :top:

If cannot find the socket cover... I will put up another DIY on how to recycle used condom.. :p :D

Normally for an E36, there are two knobs to adjust the headlight.

1. first knob for up/down direction
2. second knob for left/right direction.

Does the E46 or E90 have this feature?

Astro, I just recheck my lights assembly, both sides have covers for the wires, and, confirmed that your lamp assembly wires are exposed. Please ask Ingress this Saturday when we are there.

Emm, I am afraid there is no lef/right adjustment for E90, at least for the projection Headlamp version...Not 100% sure, but I cannot locate the left/right adjustment screw.

If it only for low beam, how do you adjust the high beam when it is shooting at the aeroplane...

Jarance, I think there's mis-understanding here... after careful reading about your post, now only I realise...

What u mention above izzit referring to the headlight adjustment screws behind the headlight, under the bonnet? If yes, then all cars have it.

My question was in my old E36, there's a dial on the dash board left hand side to the steering column to adjust the headlight heights when the car on the move. U adjust it on the fly, without stoping the car or open the bonnet and the purpose is to adjust the height of the headlight when it's aiming too high due to the excess baggage at your rear. Only height and not left/right as u mentioned above. The left/right adjustment screw is only available under the bonnet, NOT in the cockpit.

This is the switch in E36:

Anyway, I checked my car last night, the driver side headlight socket cover CONFIRM NOT THERE!!! Bloody hell! How can they miss this out? Its a RM220k new pre-reg car!! (7 month old now..) while checking last night, I also found a scar under the paint surface that cause uneven paint surface on my bumper, when squat down, can see clearly... arrrrrrrrrrrrrgh....... stupid BMW.. :( I think I have seen better finishing used BMWs around.. :(

yes, I am refering to the adjustment as indicated by picture below:-

You are refering to the actuator as indicated by the picture below:-

Ai seh!.... chicken and duck talk...

Actually I'm not interested to find out if there's under the hood headlight adjustment mah... because deem understood wat.. u mean there's ppl dunno headlight beam throw angle can be adjusted meh?

Its the adjustment in the cockpit I interested in.. :D This is BMW okay! ...and its already available in E36 which is almost 2 decade old technology lio la.. why 20th century BMW don't have?

AstroBoy, You may go back to the dealer to claim back the cover. The cover seems not so important but it is useful to protect the water from entering. Unless u really wanna use a condom to cover it :D. No adjustment in the cockpit, I guess the headlight is already more advance and designed as adaptive headlight which will adjust high/low,left/right according to the driving condition....But but, yours and mine here are without this features ;). Just like now ours are with semi electronic seat adjustment, whereas yr 96 one are manuals. You can easily have a fully electronic seat adjustment in a Japanese car which only cost u half of our car price ;)
