Just service the car last week, Drove the car in the morning and after 5 hours in a stationary position with the engine off, I coincidently I checked out the dip stick and the oil was at a minimum. The on board says that I'm a 1/4 liter short. Called BMW and they patch me through somebody at the service center who was at home and he said it should be normal and the oil level should return to near max tomorrow morning. He said if I was worried I could sent in the car on monday to verify the level.Question:1: Is this normal2: I asked could the sensor at the engine oil bay be faulty?3:I asked shouldn;t I follow the dip stick rather than the on board since its bare minimum. Reply says if onboard is ok, follow on board :hmmmm2::hmmmm2::hmmmm2::hmmmm2::hmmmm2:Anyone actually check out their dipstick rather than follow the on board as a yard stick??

Just curious, for E90 how can check with the dipstick? AFAIK we can only check the oil level on board.Anyway, it happened to me a few times where sometimes the reading shown need 1 liter top up, but on the next morning, the OBC indicator shown max back. Some mechanic said that the measurement should be taken during static and dynamic to get the correct oil level reading.

i would rather to take dipstick reading, at the same time to get the mech to rectify onboard reading.
guess physical/actual reading would not "cheat" us.... :)

I am no E90 owner but since when we have dipstick on this model?
I only hear ppl complain about no dipstick...

The diesel has dipstick

oic... but how come diesel version has but not on gasoline version?
Looks like this is going to be a an issue on E90, meter vs actual oil volume...

1. because engine oil level very crucial in turbo car where the oil is used as cooling agent for the turbine, so they give u the stick to check lor.. either that, or they realise their mistake of removing the dip stick in our variant..

2. The later version of the E46 also using both the dipstick and oil sensor, I have seen both reporting conflicting result which 100% of the time confirm the oil sensor kaput. If dun replace the sensor, warning light constantly appear on the dash..
