To be honest I don't really enjoy my car so much. Maybe it's the driving condition on the roads I usually take. But I just loved the 320d courtesy car ..

Why did BMW Malaysia decide to include iDrive in 320d?

To capture more money from 320i buyers? Because 325i not doing too well now?

Might go to a showroom to check it out later this week. Not gonna switch, just kay poh chi ..

I just spoke this evening with Mr Roland Ooi from Quill...he says it's all the end-of-life-cycle goodies they always throw in, and the 320d isn't selling very well in Malaysia unlike the way it really took off in UK and Europe. The new 3 series, codenamed the F30, will hit our shores in CBU guise mid next year. The 320d that comes in F30 form also WON'T have iDrive again he says.

Yeah the specs tend to get better towards the end of life cycle.

F30 to arrive in Mid 2012? That's quite fast actually. Gotta earn more money to get ready :p

Ha ha...that's life...no money, no talk. Put more money in, get more options in car...unless willing to wait till end of life cycle, then get free options thrown in.

Wow, what a bargain for the new 320d MSport, 184hp/380Nm engine, BER and I-drive at rm261k...! And delivery in only 2 weeks? Gosh.
I am already jealous of the soon-to-be owners. Wonder if BMWM would be willing to re-fit our cars with I-drive, and how much it might cost?

* note to self, remember to watch out for the end life-cycle F30 bargain spree!

No Maniac bro, they get the 177hp, 350Nm torque version with the iDrive and BER. So, your car is 'special' in is own right;see how clever marketing makes everybody 'happy' with their own car.

Retrofitting wouldn't be worthwhile as it's a completely different dash, centre console, wiring harness, etc. It would cost tens of thousands. Better to bite the bullet and switch up if you're keen.

This cycle happens for every model. A mid-2012 launch of the F30 here sounds about right. In the next ~18 months we can expect even more goodies and discounts to be thrown in as the time approaches. Worth buying now, as the first 2 years of a new model will usually be goodies-poor - eg, iDrive/nav didn't appear in the E90 until the 3rd model year.

Retrofitting would cost a bomb as it involves changing the whole dash. I think that's also probably the ultimate aim of BMW marketing; to get us to buy TWO versions of their cars-one, at the beginning of a new life cycle with less frills and garnish, then the 2nd one towards the end with all the flourishings. But by then, the 1st version we bought would be quite worthless too on the 2nd hand market.

BMW...Brilliant Marketing Wizards!!!

Then again, if the govt flip-flops from the current biodiesel-on-1/6/11 policy and reverts to the original Euro4M policy, BMW might bring in the 6-cyl diesels. So if you upgrade to the new 320d Sports now, you would really be weeping then. Happy deciding... :4:

I'll probably not get the first batch. Maybe just after LCI. The freebies won't matter so much when F30 is already getting replaced.

the brochure seems to imply that they'll have the 184/380...In any case, it's great news for new buyers. Perhaps this might grow the number of oil burners users :)
Anyways, quote for refitting the idrive is in the region of rm30k. Wowz

Guys, just a thought....if the 320d UDM has 184hp and 380Nm of torque, how come the century sprint is only 0.01sec (ie.7.6sec) faster than the 325i naturally aspirated N52 6potter? The 325i only has 218HP and 250NM of torque but does the century sprint in 7.7sec? Hmmmm....interesting, no?

Oh yeah it does, Maniac bro...wonder why Mr Roland said otherwise...

Probably he doesn't know his product well enough? Specs keep changing, hence, he's not the sales advisor on the filed selling the cars, so maybe not as familiar as the field guy who goes for battle every day :)

I think hard to blame him..probably BMW HQ holds their cards so close to their chest...trade secrets cards (ha ha!!) that even the dealers don't know much till the last minute. If any of us knew about these developments, would we have waited a year or so for the iDrive 320d? I think yes.

The century sprint figures....I think we'll leave that debate to the automobile engineers.....there are a few who graduated from Germany, I hear they are now working with various European car marques in Germany developing various state-of-the-art petrol and diesel and hybrid engines(also hydrogen!)-if you know of any, please invite them to this forum's thread and I'm sure we'll have an enjoyable and involving discussion!

Yup probably. But then again, they are all businessman, the main aim, is to sell cars, and sell more cars $$$

Oh man, why do they colour code the exterior and interior!! I can't get space grey with saddle brown interior. I'll just have to go with the alpine white . Spoke to 2 different sales agents, one saying changing to 19" rims will make the warranty void and the other saying vice versa. Can somebody out there put me out of my misery and clear this for me?? I don't like the rims that come with the 320d m-sport. By the way the waiting list for the 320d with I-drive is abt 7-14 working days according to a trustworthy agent.

Acceleration is dependent on torque x rpm. So, the d has higher torque but max rev is lower and conversely for the i. Need to really calculate in detail based on the torque power curve to get calculated acceleration figures. But in essence, we can say the d reaches max hp at lower rpms, thus accelerates to 100 faster. However, it might be different if you calculate 0 - 200 kmh or 100 - 200 kmh.

U are lucky enough, doc, to get the 320d with the iDrive!!! Whatever misery you are going through now is merely a tenth of what we are going through-the guys who bought the 320d without the iDrive!!
