I think it means free BMW Garmin GPS attached to the top of the dashboard in the center, audio-linked to the car speakers.

yap, it should be the GPS unit on the dash. Was offered to fix the free unit when I bought my ride...but I took free security tint instead because the GPS unit is too small for my liking; can't see the display clearly perhaps I'm getting older...:26:

Seriously it does look like it has idrive ...

I've driven the 325i with iDrive and my 320d has the Garmin/BMW Navigation Professional. Both have bluetooth linked to the car's audio system including voice dialling etc. However there are differences. First thing you notice is that the iDrive screen is obviously bigger, 8.5 inches vs. 4.3 inches is a huge difference. However since the GPS doesn't take up all the screen maybe it's not that big a deal.

From a map perspective, the Garmin version especially if you're using malsingmaps or malfreemaps has far more updated info with a lot of relevant POIs as well compared to the iDrive. It's also updated almost monthly by people actually driving in Malaysia so I much prefer the Garmin version.

However one thing the iDrive GPS has that could be a huge help is dead reckoning. When the Garmin loses satellite signal eg. in a parking garage or tunnel, then it's lost. The iDrive GPS will actually use info from the internal compass and odometer to actually figure out where you are even if you don't have a GPS signal. Try driving in the SMART tunnel or under the numerous flyovers in Singapore where the GPS signal is weak and you'll realize how useful this is.

Just my experience using both systems.

Spoke to a sales advisor today and he confirmed that the new 320d comes with iDrive and Navigation Professional :)

There's one more big advantage of iDrive NavPro. It's linked to the communications module, and clicking on the phone no stated in a location dials it immediately through the bluetooth connection. A month ago I called 3 hotels and booked a room while on the Penang Bridge crossing to the island, and I didn't even have to slow down or touch my phone. Most of the locations have phone nos, so you can call ahead while NavPro takes you there. That's luxury!

Wow.. Thanks for the info

I drive a 325i with iDrive installed and now only I know about the internal compass and odometer thingy.

But i agree with in regards to the map. I have my own GPS unit installed with MalFreeMaps because I like the kind of details it gave me in regards to POI and even junction view and pics of several places. I don't have this with Navigation software with iDrive. Well... i guess u can't have it all.

Nevertheless, I like the iDrive because it allows me access to the Music folders, vehicle information folder ie. car status, journer trip meter, car services info and even integration with my iPhone in regards to direct dialing to POI with phone number stored in them.

Until the day they come out with the F30 with iDrive powered by Nvidia chipset, I guess the current generation iDrive (hard-disk based) is pretty good. Just need to find a way to get latest map installed without ridiculous pricing charged

iDrive in new 320D; it's like an icing on the cake! i want to trade-in mine too!!!

I've sold my old faithful 320d today! Gonna put the down payment down for the iDrive-fitted-320d this weekend! Thanks artyca for the bestest news in the world for us all 320d owners!! We must catch up for a TT session-owe you a big favour!! Gong Xi Fa Chai artyca!!

Doc, with the increase of fuel price, that's way to go. Fantastic torque & performance from the new 320d while I was driving it during the BMW driver's training.

Getting one toO !!

Hi guys, am planning to place a booking for the 320d myself. Had a look at it back in Nov but put it off till Chinese New Year. Great news that they've added the idrive + navigation. I'm a little confused on the colours option, are there limited colours that we can choose from for the 320d ? I'm planning to change the rims to 19" but am worried the warranty may be void.. True/False ? Thanks guys for the input!

You may want to wait until after CNY. Then you'll get a 2011 manufactured car and 2011 nav map (usually out sometime in Feb)

Welcome to the 320d owners club, doc! Whatever you do would void your warranty if you do not get a writen-consent from the distributor to allow you to do so. Sorry to sound so legalistic but you know how this world operates now these days....Have you heard about the new price? Is it still 260K?
