Yes, so we've been told. Also if you have a 911. A BMW 320d is the best car in the world...but only if you suffer delusions of grandeur.

I usually buy from Petronas...and I hear ultimately, all fuels(petrol or diesel) come from Petronas...then the other distributors put in their additives and sell them under their particular brands. So, it's all the same! And I also hear Malaysia exports Euro 4 diesel to Singapore!!!!....SO UNFAIR!!!

I wonder who told you Malaysia exports Euro4 diesel to S'pore. We have no refineries in Malaysia that can produce better than Euro2 (2M only to be exact) standard of fuel because it is not the matter of adding additives to get one...it involves revamping your refining process for the whole plant which will incur RM billion figure budget. However it will be available but probably in a few years time.

Spot on zeedo. That's just BS from people who don't know what they're talking about. Tembak jer. Not only do we not have the licenced process to produce 4M diesel, but you can't achieve it with the crude that we import to refine.

We didnt say that...just that diesel is the way-to-go!!! No need to isi,isi,.isi...every 3 days at petrol station...:frown:

No problems whatsoever, hope! It's a great car...all the others are envious! Enjoy! Try to find a single 320d owner that's pissed with his car..that's changed to a 325i...or a 320i..

Definitely Hope, don't dwell, go for it. It's a good buy: lower cost to attain, lower cost to keep, and yet you own a BMW!

It's one of the finest BMW engines, the much-acclaimed BMW modern turbodiesels..what do you mean by 'yet' you own a BMW?

it's a perception issue that needs education to address to encourage more people to hop on to the luxury diesel bandwagon... education is the key...

It's also an opportunity issue as 320d was not available in Malaysia previously, so all the proud owner of E90 3 series who bought their car before the launch of 320d doesn't have the opportunity to make such purchase decision as you.

stepping on others under such situation to promote 320d to the newcomers would be deem unfair to others who had bought their E90 prior to the launch of 320d.

everyone would definately love to brag about it when they had siezed a bloody good bargain, that's in human blood.... but please be considerate for the others who did not have the same opportunity as you have when they made their decision of purchase.

Personally, I don't think BS is a foul word. It might be strong, but acceptable in normal but frank conversations, at least to me. To each his own, I guess.

But if you can rebut politely, maturely and logically, I don't see why you need others to leave if you can put forth your points strongly and courteously. They have their own thoughts....so do you. Is it wrong to disagree and yet share the same passion?

I don't own a 320d....but I love anything that has the blue and white propeller. I want to learn more. Does that mean that I'm not welcomed here too?

The 320d and the 325i - the engine characteristics are totally different. It's a whole different ballgame, you just can't compare them head to head.

Torque is definitely much higher at a much lower rev in a diesel, so the car gets 'excited' at a very early stage. Fuel consumption, hands down diesel wins it. And it costs double the price to produce a diesel engine than a petrol variant.

Speed and acceleration is definitely over to the petrol engine, but actually highly unlikely we get to be in a region where we get to 'taste' the sweet spot, especially when roadblocks and speed traps are all over the place as we get closer to the festive season.

The sound of the car revving up is different. The driver's feel is definitely different. The response of the engine to your right foot is different. Hence, the whole driving experience is different as well.

So all in all:

Fuel consumption and torque-y engine - Diesel.

Speed and acceleration - Petrol.

The rest - individual preferences.

sorry for a probable newbie question but isn't accelaration directly proportional to torque ie the 320D has higher torque hence should accelrate faster? Pls don't flame me... just an honest question to learn. thanks .

The turbo helps too

According to some BMW guys, in Malaysia we are still using the older version of the 325i engine so its performance is about the same with the 177 hp 320d. The low quality fuel also levels the performance for both cars :)

The newer 184 hp 320d apparently is quicker than the 325i.
