E46f, look at the popular German car mags. I guess it shows how diverse taste is :) I made a typo earlier as I meant to say "most" instead of "all".
COuld not find a SINGLE mag or review on the Net which put the 156 GTA ahead of the legendary E46 M3... Even did a few google translate on german pages with no luck. Doesn't sound logical as:

1) E46 M3 is faster, handles much better, laps faster around the Nurbrigning and Tsukuba circuit (Best Motoring), has better quality and built... compared to the 156 GTA

Sooo...... I stand enlightened...

Exactly how many German mags puts the 156 GTA ahead of the E46 M3 btw and ... why??

Btw, just to put perspective of how outclassed the 156 GTA was against the E46 M3 around Nurbrigring,

Drive at 147Km/h, and count 29 seconds cruising at that speed, and the distance travelled is the distance of how much ahead the M3 is to the GTA in 1 lap of the 'Ring.

wow... quite surprised at the disparity between the two car's performance around the Nurburgring... M Power rules :D

samhun, i agree. id like nothing more than to see the current alfas retain the old pricing. hell, if i had my way, alfas would be priced same as protons! (then i can change up to a newer model :D )

 Redd:
For what i meant, Audi should has better quality built thn Alfa. And, some more most ppl will prefer the germans car thn others. I think the Alfa should put their price tag below RM190k or the same price like Peuguet 407 at RM170. Coz they are about the same range mah

Don't be silly comparing m3 and 156 gta. 156 gta was never intended to target the m3, it was meant to targer the 330 so a comparision with 156 gta is not fair. 159 GTA, now that's a different story...
Thanks for clearing that up... You are absolutely right, when it comes to comparing the 156 GTA against the legendary E46 M3. As for the 159 GTA, initial stats don't look that great either (0-100km/h 7.0 secs), but hoping to read more detailed reviews on how it stacks up with the M as well. :D

The BMW 3 series has always been the benchmark for the rest to follow. So far everyone else is still playing catchup ;)

Pls re-read my posts. I did not say that the 156 GTA was NOT highly rated. I just pointed out that when comparing to the E46 M3, its totally outclassed and was eager to read otherwise in "German" mags as claimed by WJ.

Glad at the end things have been cleared up that the initial claims was just a result of a mere misunderstanding.

guys, why are we splitting hairs again? GTA, good. M3, better. ok? :)

Redd,

I hope non of those those "rich kids, yuppies and young professionals" buy an Alfa because that's the reason I sold my e36 m3 evo :D . Who the hell want to be associated with them? A sign that you have arrived? Unless of course if you are insecure wankers that need to be driving bmw/merc to show you have arrived!
Unfortunatly, that does seem to be the target market that Redd was referring to when asked to justify the rise in prices for Alfas in Malaysia. Time to move back into that BMW/Merc/Whatever, dude.

Ya, I agree, most BMW/Merc drivers are pretentious, aspirational, wannabes... it's very sad.

e46f should be happy to hear that. he can sleep better now!

but frankly i'd rather that alfa be priced low. it's best many don't discover its strengths. it's best not to have any cup holder! i don't care what the magazines say about its acceleration timing. a 6.3 seconds acceleration time is no lesser in sportiness than a car witha 6 seconds acceleration. i just enjoy driving and there is nothing like an alfa and wanna own cheap!

sound, feel, emotion, looks inside and out, quality (improved), handling --> complete sporty package! nevermind it is FWD because i don't drive like steve soper!

So you saying my mini is like Mickey's car izzit! Hmmmmmppppphhhhh!!!!!!
Umm... Dun think Mickey drives a Mini but bet he rides one quite hard! Hahaha... Well, Mr. Bean drives a Mini tho...

Question:

Why do Alfa owners always seem to have this need to justify their love for their cars?

Ie:"sound, feel, emotion, looks inside and out, quality (improved), handling --> complete sporty package! nevermind it is FWD because i don't drive like steve soper!"

I think it only applies when comparing them to BMWs as performance specs and reviews generally favor BMWs. I doubt Alfa ownes need to do the same when comparing to the Accords and Camrys out there?? :dunno:
