Hi there, newbie here but am trying to find out more about the E90 320d. I've been doing a lot of research on the car and am considering getting one to replace my Honda Accord. I do a lot of travelling on the North South Highway so I thought it'd be a good time to try a diesel car for the economy. However I've read some posts about how not all gas stations in Malaysia have the right nozzle that can fit the gas tank of the 320d. What exactly is the issue though? I'm curious what makes the 320d different from other regular diesel vehicles in Malaysia. This is a concern for me because I travel to a lot of small towns on business and I don't want to risk getting stranded with no way to refuel!

Hi, I have a 320d. actually there is no refuling issue. All BMW diesel cars come with a safety pin for which only ISO standard diesel nozzles can be inserted in the fuel tank. This is to ensure that we dont accidently fill petrol into the tank. However not all petrol station in M,sia follow the ISO standrd type of nozzle (usually the gun type). However there are plenty around. Anyway if you are in emergency ,you can still fill up using the non ISO nozzle by depressing a pen on the pin of the tank hole so that your nozzle will insert

Hi supersonic,

Thanks for clarifying that. Does BMW offer a workaround on this issue? Like perhaps removing the pin to accommodate the various nozzle sizes in Malaysia?

The 320d requires a newer type of diesel nozzle which is larger than the older ones you may find in our petrol stations. Like mentioned above, the new large type activates a switch which opens the flap to the fuel tank. My SA advised me to go to Shell and Petronas stations for now since those two already have many stations with the newer nozzles.

From my experience, Petronas is the safer bet since many of their stations have the newer nozzles compared to Shell. Also within one petrol station, only some of the nozzles are new! So you may have to do some trial and error a bit :)

One full tank in a 320d can give you up to 1000km traveling distance if driven within speed limit, so just refuel in major towns or highway before venturing into interior areas.

BMW was launching the 'Efficient Dynamics' test drive session at AB sg.besi brunch (was getting my 320d then ;)). The technical guys were doing an info session and mentioned have to use the diesel pump inside the service station, not outside. They said the nozzle used on the outside pump is different to those used indoors as they are cater for buses and trucks.
Not sure how true is that. I did my first refill yesterday at Shell Bangsar using the pump inside the station...no problems.

That you can ask yr bmw dealer. but 4 me it is not advisable coz this is a gd safety feature in new bmw cars. Anyway you will slowly get to know all the petrol stations that have the new diesel noozle. I do not find any problem for filling as i have identified quite a number of filling stations and I go there for refueling.

Has anyone thought of improvising a short piece of hollow tube (pvc or metal) properly sized to the 320d's filler neck check flap ?? It can be part of the car's tool. :stupid:

Hmmm 65K discount!! Very good deal. Guess their diesel stock has not been moving fast enough.

Not issues with refueling.. But be sure its diesel that you are pumping in to your car.

Dear X Benz, did you ditch your Benz, hence the name? Can't go wrong with the 320d especially if you chalk up high mileage driving around Malaysia. In KL at least, the Petronas stations have the latest diesel nozzles to fit the 320d fuel port. If going into really interior interior of Peninsular Malaysia, then maybe you might want to fill up full tank first. Still its 800-1000km before you need to fill up again! And there's a pin hole you can push a pen into, to open the fuel port for non-fitting diesel nozzles.

Regards,

Ray:wink:

hye ray, just want to clarify the matter above,is there any pin hole to unlatch those flapper or do you mean those 2 'depress to unlatch' mechanism which is located on the hole itslef.thanks.

Actually there are 2 pins or so called smart lock up and down in front of the flap. all u have to do is to push these 2 pins simultaneously up n down while pushing the flap forward BUT u have to release the flap very slowly and carefully to get the opening otherwise it will lock back itself.then u push the nozzle all the way....it needs some practice though but as they said practice makes perfect right:listen:

:listen:it will void any warranty should anything bad happens ... be warned bro. ....anyway it is not safe to "improvise" where not required. Obviously there are (safety) reasons on why it was design like that... :listen:;)
