WTCC , just wonder why the 6 cyl 320i is being use in the championship and the production model is only 4 cyl ??

the 4 cylinder engine is mainly for 'economy' and not much potential to be exploited. Gone are the days for the S14 and S42 4 cylinder racing engines.
(Note: S14 is the E30 M3 engine, S42 is the racing engine developed from the M42 engine in the E30 and E36 318is)

The 6 cylinder engine is what BMW has be good at, it's a natural choice to make when developing a motorsport engine...

By the way, 2006 WTCC, BMW is using back the 4 cyl. engine
oh yeah, OSF posted that article not too long ago....

I think it's a way to shed some overall weight...
