Hi Guys,I have noticed that my engine oil decreases to the min mark after only 9000km. My driving is around 20% city / 80% highway. I am using Shell Helix Ultra Full Synthetic. Anyone having the same situation here?

thats about 1litre per 9000km...based on BMW engine oil consumption spec it looks normal...

what is the viscosity/ SAE grade of the oil u using?

@ BIMMERDAN

thanks for the info bro. mind sharing how's ur oil consumption like ?

@TRIBENA

hope this is the case. bro, mind telling me where did u find the engine oil consumption spec for BMW ?

I use royal purple 10W40 since I bought my car back in 2007. Mileage now is 212000km. When I hit about 7000km, I will need to top-up 1quart (this is when it's at the min level of the dipstick). However, I also notice these days the weather is extreme, hitting 40 degree Celcius when back in 2007/08 most I have seen is 36 degree Celcius. So, when I need to top up, that's when I go for servicing. Every service, it takes 7quarts to fill-in. So I think it's a combination of factors...

@tribena

Using Shell Helix Ultra Full Sync 5-40.

@jaleeks23

Sorry, you mean yours will drop to min level also @ 7000km? Quarts = 1 litre i presume ?

1. Bad choice of Lubrication. ( too thin and it vapourises)
2. Check your oil sump gasket. It definitely leaking.
3. Your diaphram.
4. Fly wheel oil seal could also be leaking.

My guess is the oil sump gasket. get the better on cost RM50 more. there are 2 types. It pays to use quality products

@jaleeks

thanks. may i know have you done overhaul on ur engine before?i heard an overhaul engine will consume more engine oil.

Bro,

I have seen and driven your car when we had bak kut teh in Klang. Prior to that we have also inspected your car at M Speed and found no lube leaks from engine or eleswhere. I suspect is your Shell Helix oil...where did you buy it?? There are lots of fakes Shell lube oil and the only safe place to by it is from Shell petrol station.

Exactly, the fake or repack Shell and Castrol engine oil are plenty in the market now as they are good in demand.

@ bimmer73
checked before and confirm no leakage.

@herbert
i am suspicious of the oil as well. i bought it from the internet. could it be fake ??

Transporter, if you have checked and no leaks, then, at 9000km, why not change engine oil, use another brand, or better still, go to a shell station and buy from them and try see if it goes down or not. If it goes down, then do a compression test. If there's a bit of gap, then decide if you want to overhaul. Oil reduce at 9000km, IMO is not worrying. What's the mileage of your car?

my bro's car had similar issues and diagnosed by mech but still can't find anything wrong. Ever since changed to Caltex semi-syn it seems ok. Previously was on Shell Helix...maybe imitation product.

mmm..according to wat u said, high possibility there's alot of imitation shell helix out there...

also i have noticed the shell helix i bought online, the bottle's sticker is printed made in MALAYSIA( same as those sold in shell station). it also have additional SEALafter opening the bottle cap.

otherwise the 1 i bought from carrefour, the bottle's sticker is printed made in EUROPEand it does NOT have the seal after opening the bottle cap.

some oils i think is more resistant to evaporation, some not. I buy Royal Purple from internet too, i think it's fully synthetic at 10W40, I'm used to the oil and the seller, so it's ok. I also know that RP will evaporate as I've used this oil for a long time. Since mileage is at 190k km, I seriously think it's fine, no big issue. Link it to the weather too since the temperature has increased compared to few years back... IF worried, just get castrol 10W40 magnatec original, shud be fine.
