dear bmwers,i have recently bought 2 shell helix ultra (5w-40) and went to change my Engine Oil at a workshop nearby but was told that they only change their in house brand of oils (15w-50).can you guys recommend me any good and reliable workshop that is able to assist if i bring in my own oils ?was also told that my e39 2.5cc need 2 bottle of engine oils by my previous workshop. but i remember reading somewhere that my engine only requires 6.5 litre..am i being ripped off ?thanks !! :)

It's true that E39 2500cc engine oil change needs around 6.5 to 7 litres, you are not being ripped off:

2 bottles of engine oil = 8 litres
you need 6.5 to 7 litres however, you can't buy 1 bottle of 4 litre engine oil plus 2.5 litres separately...

cheers

you should be able to get back 1/2 bottle back for the next oil change or for top up.

15-50W maybe too high.. 5 to 40w just about right.

Mika,

As to recommended workshops, you did not mention where is your location (KL, PJ, Ipoh, etc..) so how to recommend?? Having said that, there are plenty of information available if you spend sometime going through the E39 threads. Also do make use of the search engine and you will most likely be able to obtain whatever you need to know about your car.

I won't know of any workshops in Klang as I am from Subang Jaya area. I usually go to

1. Bestness Motorsports, 2 Jalan PJU 1A/12, Taman Perindustrian Jaya, Ara Damansara, PJ. Tel: (012) 288-6480 Mr Yong

2. M Speed Auto Service, 29 Jalan TS 6/1, Taman Industry Subang, Subang Jaya, Tel: (012) 209-8850 Kenny

I have been servicing all my BMWs at Milan Motors in Taman Sungai Besi. Have been using him over the last 18 years. A little bit pricey but nonetheless very reliable.

Yup Milan a bit pricy. However i would recommend the first Workshop that Herbert listed..reasonable pricing, Good parts, honest and excellent work.
