vobs, just checked your posting. you just bought an e46 3251. congrats on your new car

question : with all your complaints and insecurities, why buy the car? if you are not sure about a certain girls reputation, why marry her? and even after knowing her 'reputation' based on your own finding...you still marry her after that !

now i am kanfused.....

Chill Bro, hehehe....since u know i bought it already, that means im not complaining or insecure bout the car or the brand, and heck, before this i drove E30 as well.

Why i ask so many question and target on negative remarks?

1) Im just looking for a more convincing answers so that i can use it on people who complaint without testing the car.....I cant convince them just with my mouth cos i have a fair share of issues with my bmw as im solving it step by step.

2) I can say "this good that good"....they will not blif me somehow (as they already set their mind that way as they see it).....but if "i say this good that good" then show them that other owners experience the same, its a more convincing answer to their negative remarks

Why wanna convince them u may ask?

1) cos ive been hearing from them since day 1 so it gets abit annoying....i appreciate their concern alot:) but i cant stand multiple hit to my favourite car and favourite brand (its like when u married ur wife, and they say shes ugly, how would u feel?, im sure u will try to convince them shes not rite? **figure of speech***)

Hope ure cleared of the kanfusion! and my take on BMW at the end of the day is:-

1) I guess BMW or any other car is the same....it depends on the previous owner on how the car was taken care of. if previous owner trash the car, im sure the car gonna have alot of problems.....but if the second owner have passion and patience to clear those prob step by step....it will last u longer than u think for BMW...(proton i dunno hehe) and i can repeat, bmw is a very nice car to drive once its cleared of probs:)

2) some may say, parts is expensive la...thats why...I would reply, u kena parang by unethical mechs lor (thats why).....at the end of the day, if ure resourceful, u will find it affordable

3) more expensive YES, last longer also YES....it will be the same where Jap parts are cheaper but more frequent replacement....cost to cost end up the same in long run just like the jap rm200 5k interval vs udm rm600 25k interval.

So bro Hellraiser:) im all cool, just a curious newbie here:) apologies

Bro plan to get BMW get newer car, getting an aged car will burn a big hole in your pocket in replacing the parts as it is not cheap!

i like you vobs ! bottom line is this...it is not easy to change the mindset of others who perceive BMW as a very expensive car to maintain and those who prefer to listen to all the crap rather than the things we tell them.

let them be lah...at the end of the day, they are driving a JDM...while you are driving a UDM!

p.s : BMW sez 25k interval but Castrol sez 10k interval to appreciate the qualities of the engine oil. most to most 15k. more than that and the qualities ..minerals n all are no longer that effective.

cheers!

hmm..if i use the same Castrol for JDM, can last 15k or not? hehe
My JDM i service 10k, UDM also 10k.. i don't plan to service JDM too often coz seldom use lehhh (1 year not even 10k)

Yeah lor, true also, just let it be then....btw, yesterday my car jam at toll KJ due to water pump kaput, water tank leaking....sigh.....kena towed heheh....

In simple maths:

For a JDM spare part that cost say..RM100 will last u about 2-3 years before you need replacement!

For a BMW same part which may cost RM180, but may last u 5-6 years.

Therefore it is how you define "high mantenance" in your own context!

Just my 2cents!

bro, how did that happen lah??

Im not sure, all of the sudden the fan connected to water pump got loose, then the spinning fan hit the plastic cover and make some annoying and scary sound. should be the sub bearing which is due already.

Then halfway driving to my mech in subang two, the loose fan got jam by some rubber and stop spinning and that led to temperature rise. Have to stop and get it carried lor

Damage : water pump, two belt, water tank, fan......its all fixed and replaced, but my mech wanna have my car for another day cos the temp meter eventhough stable but is a lil bit higher than normal, so he said he will try to reduce it back via i dunno how:)

Update you later once i pick up my car.....maybe going for a tint:)

vobs, why are you so focused on the negative. if someone wants to jump down a building, will you also follow just because he is your friend?

the BMW is a very reliable car in terms of performance, safety and quality. like all things, if you take care of the car, the car will take care of you. as time passes, maintenance will increase if it is an old car unless you tell me proton is cheaper than i dunno what to say lah. you'll be lucky if proton can last you 5 years on the road and i am speaking from experience.

some say high maintenance cos either slaughter by unscrupolous mechanics out to make a fast buck. two, you will pay slighly higher for maintenence. you mean to tell me, you want to drive nice luxurious car but only want to pay kancil maintenance price...how cannnnnnnn?

i don't think you have taken a BMW for test drive. take my advise...test drive first, then tok. no point you read threads or post cos you only want to read the negative part...

let the car speak for itself...

I agree with you Hellraiser!! I would rather look at the value of money in term of "safety".

In 2005, I have experienced knocking a bull crossing a road (Nenasi, Pahang) in the middle of the night while driving along a curve/bend at 100Km/h in my E46 325i. Front right fender and the right head-light totally damaged but the good thing was that, the car didn't spin and I was perfectly safe! Syukur alhamdulillah! Although the air-bag sensor didnt trigger, the safety belt, the dynamic stabilty control (DSC) and tha ABS were fantastically functioning without my instruction...

We all r well aware, Kancil or Wira can speed up as fast as our BM, but; without prejudice, I wonder how the respond would be, in case of such emergency??

Drive safely!!

Vobs, I experienced this b4. The culprit could be the pitty plastic coolant/water container. The container could easily break/crack and leak, once u dont realise, the whole tank start to drained off, and nngggaapppp one by one..all the fan jap jam, water pump kaput and lead to high temp.. and u Bawak Masuk Workshop (that what BMW stands for??...hehehe!!)

So what are the damage like for your car and how much u paid for it?

At that time, the car was still under warranty and AutoBavaria did it for FOC. U should place a rubber mat in front of the plastic container to avoid any long run rubbing/vibration effects on its surface.
