Want to buy E39, any advice?

From what I gather from contributing posts, go for M54 engine as it is double vanos. Can someone tell me what are the advantages double vanos over single? ANd to check if its M54, best way is to get the VIN number and check? Also, as far as consumption is concerned, I do alot of highway driving as I work near KLIA.

my headlight the Cepo brand so no adjusters so no need use coconut oil. next time you change adjusters for members, try to apply coconut oil.

Last visit to the workshop he jack up my car and point to a small rocker arm underneath and say lights auto focussed according to the terrain lah. No need to adjust here and there. gegek, f10 aku suka but i hate 4 wheel steering n active steering. gegek, to me, f10 has many unnecessary technologies........kalau e60, aku buang dlm tong sampah aje......

dipstick? i can live without the dipstick, but if i use f10, most probably i retrofit the dipstick.... certain sensors in the car, i just prefer it manually.....

how to differentiate m54 n m52. tgk pd accelerator pedal. kalau keras mcm nak mampos@pakai cable, it is m52.
kalau lembut utk di tekan@takde cable, it is m54.........
kalau tgk enjin aje, kau takleh differentiate between m54 n m52TU engine.......
m52 pon ada double vanos, the TU (technical update) models....

why e39 headlight adjuster got problem? hallo, bmw is made by human being, not god. so, there should be some problems in something that is made by human being. we, as users, try to remedy the problem, according to ur taste n style......

toyota also a good car. depends what u want from a car. what i want might be different from what u want in ur car.
just like u think ur wife is pretty but to me ur wife is like hippo......
as long as u're happy n ur salary not affected, enjoy ur life...

but to me, e39 (any m54) still the almost perfect car for me for the time being...might or might not change in 15 yrs time.....

Cepo headlights got in-built sensors so auto self levelling/adjust. Where got people nowadays use screw driver to manually adjust anymore.

then you still have 2 manual adjusters which holded the whole headlight. If the both adjuster got problem you also da bao.

Bro tweiboon, nowadays I think cepo no longer produce the cepo self adjuster headlights like what I and Herbert got leh, but no worries cause I think your mechanic can fix the little arm under your E39 for self adjustment. Don't know whether my mechanic got bullshit me or not....

BTW, msian, Look for an E39 with M54 engine. Based on my experience, M54 engine are quite robust.

Jarance, there is got BMW engine got the double the "double vanos" and that is V8 BMW double engine. Please look at the 4th youtube video that i post at page 5. It shown that V8 got both side also got double vanos then meaning it got 4 vanos actually. But is not M54 lah...........hahahahhahahhahaha

My Cepo headlights slightly different from ebay one coz mine was a special edition introduced for Iceland. I think brader ay39 also got the same edition as mine. You see.. Iceland very cold all year round and manual adjustments no good for cold climate. That's why special edition designed for auto level/adjust. If you want, maybe I can place special order for you but don't know Cepo can oblige or not. If they agree, you have to send them your face picture next to your headlights so that they know you are the real customer.

For my headlight is original from BMW, and it got 2 manual adjusters and 1 electrical adjuster which will control by the switch. For my ex e36 the electrical adjuster will control by the computer and switch. When the car goes downhill then the headlight will low down and up hill will goes up. But my e39 will not low down and goes up when down and up hill. So it just only let u control from the switch and no auto adjust but my ex e36 got auto adjustment.

told you already, use coconut oil to lube adjusters and it won't break. if you don't believe me, try and knock your head to against a coconut and see which one break.

FYI since you are quoting technology from Toyota;

VVTi is equivalent to the VANOS
Dual VVTi is equilvalent to the Double VANOS
VVTLi is equivalent to the VANOS & Valvetronic
Dual VVTLi...i believe you can figure it out by now...

i believe there are so many literature on this...in very short;
VANOS - System that adjusts the valve timing
Valvetronic - System that adjusts the valve lifting...
