All right, thanks guys. This car seems more than meets the eye. But I'll go for one more last check with my mech and nego, before deciding.

btw, feizaldzul told me before that if i want to get a e39, i should go for the ones with m54

Go for the M54. Mine is also a M54, 525i, 2002 CKD from AB.

This is not a genuine m-sport for sure, the window lining is chrome as opposed to blacken trim on genuine M-sport.

Also from the interior photo, thats an old style sat nav screen, surely not a 2002 model. most likely 523i rebadged as a 525i.

Do a VIN check to confirm the year of production.

No lah its an ///M5. see the badge? Plate no oso can change to M 5 just take out the alphabet & digit:cool:

You mean like this?

(Its clear that I have too much time in my hands)

Also while doing that I realised the plate number could be M52, could complement the engine if it was a M52 in its heart.

the side mirrors look small to be a facelifted model, the facelifted ones are bigger and curvier as opposed to the pre facelifted,..its most likely a pre 2001 model..and most prob a 523i...

Strange ... this car on the pink slip is a 2000/2006 525i and under the bonnet is a M54. But on realoem.com it is listed as a europe 523i year 11/1998.

i believe the realoem.com

btw, the fog lights on the front bumper is the pre-face lift 2000..

so year of make 1998, registered as 2000 and shiped to m'sia at 2006.. cos jap spec..

now, up to you..your call bro..

my humble opinion, walk away and look for a 528i year 2000, facelift model.. value and power for the money..:top:

cant judge by the fog le...already change to the m5 bumper...

ya, la... opps, my bad...

must have looked at the picture that haywire posted...

My diagnosis (only my guess - might be wrong)

Car was built in 1998 - really should trust the Realoem.com.

Was first registered in 1998 or 1999 in UK or Japan (Realoem says Europe so might be UK)

Grey importer in Malaysia declare as 2000 car to increase price - I'm sure there are ways that they can do this

First registered in Malaysia in 2006

Explanation for the M54:

Might not be a M54 at all. It could be a M52TU engine which was first produced in 1998, which tally with the year of production of the car. It has double vanos and looks very close to M54, and looking from the top one couldnt easily differentiate between the two. Aluminium alloy engine block. Could be: M52TUB25 engine in its heart.

This is M52TUB25 engine - who can tell the difference?

Also from the interior shot, for me its likely to be a 1998 model.

Any comment? What do you guys think?

Pussy & haywire: you're right. I'll look for something else.

Haywire: the engine could be M52TU. I can't tell the difference either.

For business use : E39 M54 or E46 320/328 ?

Dependss....if your biz requires you travelling outstations frequently, you would like something more comfortable like the E39. If town running, the E46 will be zippy. imo.

Sorry I forgot to say that this was a M52TUB25 in an E46 not E39. Is it still different?

Thats why I have both hehehehe. I need E38 for international travelling:eek:

e46 325 is practical for town use and short outstation trips although I have driven it many times to BKH..hehehe...e39 on the other hand..m54b25 is superb for highways and long trips as its spacious..I have both..but will be using the upcoming 30 for drives..hehehehe

My biz mostly in klang valley and currently travelling in my trusty E36 328i. Some how an upgrade to E46 would not really impress my current clients (they want to see that I've upgraded myself), thought I don't mind that silver E46 328i that's on offer in this forum. Maybe a E39 520i 2.2. I know i will be adviced against this choice but it is mostly on power. Power-wise, isn't the M54 520i 2.2 the same with M52 523i ?

Aaaa... choices choices.

But thanks all for the input on this E39 ... MBH 52.

if upgrade go for the e60 530i...no regrets..and I think quite cheap now!
