Hi Guys,

Recently Im looking for a used 328i F30 (2012/2013). But before that, I would like to seek for your guys opinion in terms of the maintenance for the car, is the car engine & gearbox reliable, any other minor/major issues happened to your guys car within this few years?

Your guys feedback is highly appreciated.

Thanks.

Hmmmm...2012/2013 cars bought from authorized dealers a lot of them still under BSRI. Hard to comment on maintenance cost.

Buy a full loaded 320i f30
If will be cheaper and have loads more
If you wont more power these can be tune to more power than the 328i

with all due respect, that is terrible advice! to begin with, the 320i is of lower spec compared to the 328i. There is no such thing as a 'fully loaded' 320i.

Also its not as simple as just 'tuning' the engine. There are differences between the engine used in the 320i & 328i (even though both use N20 engine).

If possible and within ur budget, try to get those that still has BSRI valid. U might just want to consume the BSRI during ur final year of validity. Means get a 2013 F30 onwards.

just beware of the notorious steering rack issue affecting certain batches. A few of my friends had the steering rack issue.

I didn't think you understand what I was saying

You want a f30 328i in stead of a f30 320i because the 328i has more power
When these were new these cost loads more than a 320i
A lot of people would of brought the 320i as it was cheaper and ordered them with higher spec which still made them cheaper than a lower spec 328i to start with

The 328i has 240bhp 255ft of torque
If you tune a 320i these will go to 275-280bhp with 240-250ft of torque
So power will be on par with the 328i

Now if you buy a 420i instead of a 428i you will save your self upto £5000 and find a better spec than a 428i as loads of my customers have done then had them tuned to gain the extra power they wanted to match the 2.8i

Everyone on this forum are trying to help you
If you know better than why ask for help

No matter which bmw you are going to buy it will go wrong and you will have problems

Oh yes there is and I have the exact example. I have the power of a 328 at significantly lower starting cost. I have also all the trimmings and trappings of a 328.

what trimmings are you talking about?? was it factory fitted or aftermarket?

I don't want to get into a long debate about a modded 320i vs a 328i. The point I am trying to make is why go through all the hassle of buying a 320i and modding it to match a 328i when you can just get a 328i. Granted there is a price difference but when it comes to used, the price difference is not really that big. Also if you really into modding, it would be better to get a 328i as it will be able to handle more power compared to the 320i. I did come across a thread in one of the overseas forums about a guy blowing up his 320i engine due to excessive modding.

And another thing you have not considered is that when it comes the time to resell your car, the 328i will command a higher value no matter how much mods you put into the 320i. Thats bcos the bank value of the 328i is higher compared to the 320i.

bro with all due respect, i think its you who don't understand what i am trying to say. Pls refer to the above post.

this is my opinion:-
if you are not particular about power, get the 320i

if you are, get the 328i
