hi splee,

may u explain which mapping u talking about? u mean after putting in RaceChip it might not match wit gearbox?

Will there be a mismatch between the upgraded ECU mapping and the stock gearbox map?

Yup, to ensure maximum drivability and smoothness of ride, it's essential for the ECU map to work hand in hand with the transmission map to get the maximum power to the ground. The stock ECU map has been tested and programmed to match the stock transmission map to optimum level. When you change the ECU map without changing the transmission map, the alignment is out.

Racechip basically raise the boost of your engine and it is not a 'remap' to the ECU. ECU is a close-loop system and they will compensate or shifting parameters to suit new tuning to some extend. that is why usually after tuning chip installation will require about 100-200km to allow adaptation. All the modern ECU has dynamic setting according to your driving style, fuel you are using, engine performance etc.

Hi torque tuning,

Any feedback regarding the race chips tuning reliability issue on water temp and oil temp in Malaysia? As I know these chip were design and tuned in the UK. Their weather there will not goes up to 40c and the humidity there is not as high Malaysia.

Couple of my friend who had their Vw remap to stage 3 all have gearbox and water temp issue when they track their vehicle at Sepang on a very hot day.

Thanks

Bro, stage 3 includes, turbo upgrade (in the case of VW it would be a KO4 turbo either from 3rd parties such as AFE, Owens, Garret), stage 3 remap, and downpipe change.
Now if they don't include in a larger intercooler, DSG oil cooler, cold air intake, definitely those cars will have gearbox and water temp issues. I doubt that RaceChip will bring your BMW to a stage 3 :)

Yeah stage 3 included a turbo change. RaceChip definitely won't bring my car to a stage 3, but my only concerned is the reliability of the engine is long run. Cause as far I know continental vehicle water temp is running around 95-100c and water termostat open around 90-95c. Unlike jap car. Their average water temp run around 90-95c and their water termostat open around 80-85c.

With higher boost and higher and more advance timing. It produce Heat to the engine. Hence in long run will kill its life span. For jap car even if we tune the car for higher boost and higher and more advance timing. We control the fan to make it open earlier so that the engine get cooler.

Just my 2 cents.

hi fred,

thks for your interest. as replied by member here, RaceChip is similar to stage 1 and nothing close to stage 3 where hardwares are needed as well. so far, non of our customer complaining problem as mentioned by you. fyi, RaceChip is not from UK but Germany. Their build quality is as good as car manufacturer materials. i could let you try out and then you decide.

cheers.

Bro Mavik, you seems to know a lot about VW tuning. Are you happen to come from vwgolfclub Malaysia?

For those of you who have fitted RaceChip to your F30, has anyone experienced any code faults so far? Or has anyone had any problems with the factory warranty?

If assuming that the product is truly plug-n-play, are there any tell tale signs that the car has been modified if the RaceChip unit is removed?

Hi esterix,

no worries at all. not code or whatever if tuned properly. as for the warranty, it is no tracible as long as the device is removed. cheers.
