Transmission error (again)!!!!

OIC, you have engine idling problem due to the MAF fault. Most probably, the firing and combustion is farked as well because there is white smoke coming out from the tail pipe.

Funny that you never notice the above symptom when you start the car. You guys are funny lar..

it only have slight idling problem... but no white smoke came out... that time logically i have no idea to relate that to transmission error :hmmmm: but learnt something now....:rock:

Your symptom and your solution does not make sense.

first symptom.

As per owner manual, the alarm light up is due to oil pressure or the engine speed is too low causing the oil pressure to drop below the setting of the pressure switch.

Second symptom.

Again this alarm is due gearbox transmission error. GB problem could be due to many factor. eg. ATF oil pressure low, level low, GB speed sensor faulty, chocked filter, sticky solenoid valves, temperature high.
You mention can shift gear but jerky when down shift..

Third symptom
Jerky during downshift.

Diagnostic show MAF problem. No reading. what reading? Temperature or flow?

You change MAF and problem is solved. As far as I know, if the MAF is faulty, the idling speed is effected. Possible of engine stalling is possible but seldom happened unless there is a leak in the vacuum as well.

Somehow, your solution does not tally with the description of the symptom.

Not too familiar with E46 GB cos did not see the internal part. It should be located inside the GB.. Maybe I could be wrong.

I hit with this error before...changed the cam shaft sensor...all ok after that..

Dear all sifus (including sifu Jarance), Need you guys input before I burn my pocket again..

My transmission error pops out again last night till now after almost 6 months. When this happens, the gear shifting become very rough and jerky. But the transmission still can engage all gears till 5th gear. But shifting down VERY jerky :afraid:

I notice that when I start the car this time, the engine oil check lights up in orange color (suppose this check the engine oil level only right?) then the transmission error pops out...

after few seconds the engine oil check error is gone but the transmission error still there...

Went to mechanic, after check with the diagnostic device they notice the air mass flow have no reading. Went to change a new air mass flow (cost almost rm800) but the problem still there (air mass no reading + transmission error still there)

Is the engine oil sign (orange color) pops out for few seconds is giving some hint on the problem? Hope you guys can help... pleaseeee...:frown:

Better watch out with your mech....I think that error almost common. and changed other part...hehehe...there's a lot of sifu here that can recommend good and honest mech....better asked or your pocket will become slim and slimmer each time you send your car to workshop

Wow big hole in your pocket there...I think not all of the parts changed solved the problem. Only one of it actually. But some mech will try to package it...hehehe...me changed at MSpeed ah meng said "Gigi Error" just change sensor...true..changed it and solved... RM 300 ++ gone... If I not mistaken Valvetronic sensor and motor only change if when you kick the trotter your car won't push forward....or the gear didn't changed...but if Gear box emergency mode is related back to sensor at the cam shaft. Sometimes this camshaft sensor issue also can caused your car to go to EML mode which is engine running but when engage gear your car didn't even move forward. I hit with EML and Gigi Error last time...same issue sensor kaput...happen when I try to go through water hole on the street on heavy rain. better becarefull E46 engine full of electronic parts that is sensitive to water...

Hi there, I had same problem as you are facing now. My problem solve by changing the valvetronic sensor, relay and motor. Try to explore on this? May be this is the main caused.

That thing happened to my car today...however i cant start at all....when i turn the ignition key....nothing moved...and all the lights in the car blinks like lack of battery supply and go crazy...my auto transmission error signal is there. how arr?

Christmas tree....better send your car for checking. If battery gone ..battery error will come out...Christmas tree related to sensors or maybe your control unit gone.

thakyou 4 the info, checked 2day, battery gone. everythings back 2 normal now...however still scared to drive around....damn...driving udms can be traumatizing whenever problems occur dont u think soo? maybe the pricetag that comes along with the prob i guess. thanx again bro. :rock:

haha lucky u...yeah when there's any problem or error occur on the dashboard...all feels like got heart attack. Because of the price of the repair. hehee life is filled with thrill for UDM owners. hahaha...

faced similar probs over the weekend
let me start..........while cruising during the heavy rain last friday, suddenly all lights on dash illuminated as if the engine died but it didnt and 5 seconds later all disappeared except the trannie error.....very rough downshifts all the way home....4hrs later started her up..........and she was fine no error indicators on whatsoever......the next morning (feeling a bit uneasy bout what happened the day earlier) decided to take her to M1 in Kayu ara to have her checked up......otw there my baby juz seized and refused to start......10mins later started but this time together with the trannie error the ASC blinker and the Parking brake light was on but in yellow not red as we normally see it ( i was mindf***ed)
drove 1km and she seized again....didnt wanna risk it so called M1 to send a tow truck...........reached M1
tried carnking and she started with no error at all......(Maybe she period that day)
plugged in the diagnostic equip. and there it was........Crank angle sensor + Exhaust camshaft sensor kaput .....
thank god only sensors..........stll waiting for my car should be out tomoro.......
and guys life is defintely on the edge for UDM owners....the feeling wen the blinkers go on is priceless.....for everything else including repairs theres Mastercard.....

hi,

i experienced a bit differ but still on the transmission error. happened 2 times already. not during cruising but it happened during the jammed. when i hold the brake in D for along time....the error pops up,,,..it almost cannot move at all. i had to power off the ignition and start it on immediately, the error's gone and back to normal.

mine is M54 with 100k age.

anybody experienced this before?

Just back from Auto Deutsch (BM World), desa pandan.

Mechanic said the warning light is due to less auto trans fluid. diagnosed and cleared fault by BMW GT1

so done the servicing straight away...

1- syntium-5000 = RM 416
2- engine flush (2 times) = RM 100
3- Fuel System Cleaner = RM 50
4- Oil Filter = RM 45
5- Washer Fluid = 10
6- Aircond Belt-4PKX863 = RM 55
7- Auto Trans Fluid (top up) = RM 80

8- Service Charge = RM 130

Total = RM 966.00

Overall, satisfied with the shop. friendly, clean floor, clean workers, comfort customer waiting room.
