e30 V8 4lt Brainstorming session

Couldn't find much infor on m50tub30 but i am guessing it should be more than enough. As for M3 engines, was advised not to go near them unless i print money myself (was told they are very expensive when it comes to repairs).

Pussy, running and maintenance costs for the engine are important to me. I'd like it to be powerful, yet reliable, foolproof and cheap to maintain (okey, reasonably cheap to maintain). Would m50tub30 fit my requirements?

The M3 engine pussy mentioned is the US Spec M3 engine, which only has 1 throttle body, single VANOS, base on the M5X engine. Got S50B30US and S52B32.
The M3 engine you see with high maintenance is Euro Spec M3 engine, with 6 individual throttle body, double VANOS,etc. Got S50B30 and S50B32. Totally different animals.

stock non-M 3 litre straight sixes are M54, not M50. in this case, the M54B30 - should be fun with a six-speeder.

Too many engines to choose, very hard to make a decision, i know nuts about any one of them. Any recommendations? If not V8, whats next best thing?! Given budget is well under 100K, or even well under 50K hehehehehe

Can we pick one engine, all agree why its best choice and than i can do my googling, planning, thinking, saving, saving, saving and etc...
