When you say 800+ logged dives, do you mean you've actually went into the water for a certain duration of time for 800 times? Wow, that's impressive. Not a diver myself but has always been fascinated with marine life. My former late partner was an ardent diver.....love to see the photos she took under water.

Yup, literally going underwater for all that time. Average dive time approx 40mins/dive and average depth of 40 feet...

We have this little book or whatever book you want to use it, is to log every dive that one made. It states the location, dive buddies, dive depth, dive time, sea condition, temperature as well as a brief on what you see or do underwater.

Let's say for e.g. like those Open Water Divers...they shd have four logged dives by now. Dive time will start from 0:00hrs...If their first dive takes 20mins, the log will state 0:20hrs and so on..Second dives takes another 20mins, hence the total logged dive time is 0:40hrs..u get the idea.

So, as long one keep diving...apart from the certification card that is required to bring along, the log book is the one that will actually states one dive experiences based on the logged dives. A certification card only states your level of diving capabilities and not the experience.

As a Divemaster, if there's a group of divers to lead..It's a norm to check not only on their cards but their log books as well.

Usual listings to inlcude sightings...i.e. shark, turtle, nudibranch, lion fish, razor fish, squid or cuttlefish, etc...which are notable to notes in one log book.

Daredevil, there's great sites down under that one shd not miss. Why not consider taking a plunge? Don't just enjoy the pix, see it live...

A totally different world...weightlessnes plus all the marine life wonders!

Thanks the explanation NKTOB bro. One day....one day....I'll definitely be swimming wif the sharks....at one time, I was so engrossed with marine fishes, I can tell you the name of almost every kind of common marine fish...hahaha...

I think this is a good initiative DF. :top:

Hi there!

Noticed you are an AOW diver with 100 dives...

Well done..

May I suggest you go for the Rescue Diver Course? It's one course that no recreational diver should go without :top:

This course is not just about saving other ppl's life but how to prepare oneself from any untoward incidence that may happened. It makes a lot of difference in confidence to you and your buddies :burnout:

Let's Go Diving!

Hi bro...u are diving for the fishes uderwater ke or the land ones?

Haha...

Just joking bro...

But seriously..

Two school of thoughts here that I've experienced..

1. Cannot swim? No problem...As long as you are comfortable underwater, you'll sure get through the course!

2. If one take a look at the Open Water Skills Requirement, one needs to demonstrate a 10 mins swim or tread water...The usual go by the book Instructors!

So, If I'm in open seas, doing scuba diving...I'll make sure I know how to swim...

Choose wisely...

Wah, 6 pages of interest ah? No bad. I used to teach recreational scuba full-time once upon a time in the early 80s, now ex-PADI Staff Instructor. I 've given up teaching diving since '95 but I'll join in a drive too.

I have contacted a reputable Dive Center in Kuala Lumpur the following is their reply... Hope it be helpful to all.

Hi Geoffrey,

Here's the layout for your groups Discovery Scuba Session,

We are able to do it at any time, just have to let me know in advance, about 1 to 2 weeks in advance will be awesome, leaves us enough time to plan the whole thing,

Price per head - RM 100 (negotiable depending on the confirmed number of people)

Time - 11am

Venue - Selangor Country Club, Kota Damansara

What to bring - A Towel, Change of clothes (just in case), Smiles :D

Basically - we'll do a short breifing on what discover scuba is all about, highlighting all the do's and don’t's while in the pool (approx 20-30 minutes) then straight into the pool. should go on for about an hour.

Padi Open Water Course

Theres two portions one will need to complete to get certified, theres the training here in KL and then the dive trip.

To begin - they'll have to register with us, the course fee is RM 850.00, upon registration - they will receive their Open Water Manual and a dvd to watch (the dvd is a summary of the manual). you'll need to spend one or two days completing your manual at home before your class begins.

Your first session will be in a class room with your instructor, where you'll go thru your entire manual, finish 5 quizes and a final exam, nobody fails, the exam is just to confirm that you completely understand what you have learnt, mistakes will be explained and corrected. easy stuff :D

then we'll move on to your confined water training, on average a person would take about 10-12 hours to complete the whole thing, you'll be taught everything you need to know in the pool, theres no limitation on the amount of classes that we'll provice, basically we'll train you untill your ready to dive :) we'll also provide all the gear that you'll need to do the traning, the same gear will also be provided on the certification trip.

I would however recommend that each student purchase their own basic set or gear - mask, snorkle

Once all the traning is complete, its time to get on a dive trip to certifiy yourself, we have about 2-3 trips per month, covering the east coast and east malaysia, our trips are full board and ex-jetty, an east coast trip (4day3night) will cost between RM800 - RM1000 depending on which island you choose, if the group has a minimum of ten, we'll be able to do a private trip just for you guys. On the trip, your first 4 dives will will get you certified and then its all fun dives :D

Course Breakdown -

Cost - RM 850.00

Includes - All Original PADI Material, Dive Gear on loan,

Number of clases - No Limitation / We'll train you until you are ready.

Class Timing - Anytime daily between 10am - 6pm except Monday / Appointment Basis

GlobalScuba students are entitled to a 20% rebate of all dive gear bought.

Trip Breakdown

Cost - RM 800 - RM 1000

Includes - All meals, Accomodation, Dives (8 to 10), Boat Transfers

Does not include transportation to Jetty.

This is all he basic info you'll need for now, if theres anythign I havent explained clearly enough please let me know,

Looking forward to your reply Geoffrey, and making this work for your group.
