Dear Sifus,I'm driving a 04/04 lifestyle model with N42 engine. Being a noob here and i have been reading this forum to gain some knowledge. If I may ask this question
1) how do i know what transmission my E46 is using? or perhaps, is there a way to check it? (reason being, I found out that there are (i) 4 speed and (ii) 5 speed transmission)I wanted to post the question in this link but i see that it is a 4 year old thread, hence i ask the sifus here. http://www.bmwclubmalaysia.com/forums/showthread.php?16432-E46-318-2.0-Issues-at-100k-km/page4According to page 4 of the thread, Bro Planta (is inactive since 2008) explained that there are 2 types of ATF i.e red (4HP/ 4 speed transmission) and yellow (5HP / ZF transmission / 5 speed). The usage of this will affect the transmission as a whole.Now, my concern is, I had recently changed my gb oil and the oil used is red in color. Im just concerned if the oil is not compatible with my transmission.(2) (digression) after reading that thread, i believe that there we can use a type of oil to flush the engine before changing the engine oil. Is it true? is this flushing oil different from the engine oil?thank you in advance for enlightening the noob here. Kind regards,
