Salam to all,I got a question, is it possible to swap a 1999 e46 m43tu19 auto gb with steptronic transmission? if it is, does anyone know the cost, what else needs to be change to accommodate this new transmission. etc. do you guys think it is worth the money and effort to do this swap? p/s couldn't find this topic previous post. sorry if tanya lagi.

from what i know M43 is using GM1 gearbox and N42 is using GM5 gearbox. don't know if GM5 can fit to M43 engine or not

what would be the benefit to be gained from having a 5speed on the m43 1.9?

I reckoned the mounting points shud be the same.... but the trickiest part is always the wiring....
by the time u sort out everything, the cost would probably be about to same as selling the 1.9 and getting the 2.0 valvetronic... :p
Unless of cos the car has sentimental value and selling it is out of the question...

That's the thing, the cost might not be feasable. Sentimental because it's my first car hehehehe. Only one year of ownership.

Hmmm... Probably some fuel economy on highways. That,s my two cents. Still a noob in this matter. Really appreciate all opinions so can make an informed decision.

I think the closes match you can achieve is a swap with 4-speed steptronic gearbox used in the E46 produced from the middle to end of 2001. Let me check what steptronic gearbox is in mine and I'll post it here. If all else fails, go manual. Guaranteed fuel savings on highways and a pleasure to accelerate.

Salut

oppss.. hahaa.. soory.. ok like this
swap the normal 4 speed automatic gearbox (http://www.mudah.my/BMW+318i+M+SPORT+MODEL+E46+NEW+FACELIFT+FULL+SPEC-11159249.htm) to the steptronic gearbox http://www.mudah.my/BMW+E46+318i-11727711.htm ( 5 speed i think).

that so called facelift version might be from the year 99 model, judging from the gearbox module. I think the owner have converted the front panel etc to the facelift version.

mine is year 2000, comes with 4 speed steptronic gearbox
