just curious, how young are you? 18+ plus. I think you just got your driving license if I am not mistaken. (No offense).

We are discouraging you from buying it because we think you want a bmw to show off not enjoy it.

Beside the look of the E46, what do know about e46?
Do you know it weakness and strength.
Have you ever test drive an e46?
Do you know what does UDM or SDP stand for?
Do you know where to service your BMW?
How much do you think it will cost you to do normal servicing of the car.
When do your BMW tell you that you have XXXX km left before you go for oil change?

If you can answer the above, then you might be ready to own one

hehe.. don't la sked people off.

yeah you are right i am 19, well seriously i love cars since i was very young, i driven most of the japanese cars and dont really like them. I would say camry is very comfortable to drive and also to sit init cuz my mum drives 1 but when driving at high speed you feel the car is not so stable, Civic is powefull espacialy playing with its shift pedal but the sound insulation is bad same goes to the wind sound when traveling at high speed. Vios steering is very loose, very nice for parking, power is decent, handling worst than my waja, i feel its like a girls car...
as for you question:
1)the look is nice, other than that e46 is the fourth generation of the 3 series, it has improve aerodynamics compaire to the e36 and also its rated 4 star safety in euro ncap.
2)i dont know, have to ask you guys.
3)yup, from the car dealer
4)UDM=ultimate driving machine, SDP=service driving process
5)dont really know but i got 2 places from this forum as i am from penang.
6)dont know, thats why i am asking you guys
7)it depends on how i drive it, normaly it should be 5k km but i always check the oil regularly after 3k km(depends on what kind of you you are using too semi or full synthetic), take a cardboard and drip the oil on it and tilt the cardboard 45degrees and see if the oil can move down smoothly.

so am i ready to own one or what?? haha

You have done your homework. that I have to give to you. :top:

2)i dont know, have to ask you guys.
I like your answer. Humble and willing to learn. :top:

3)yup, from the car dealer
OK. At least you know the feeling. Good for you.

4)UDM=ultimate driving machine, SDP=service driving process
Correct on the first but wrong on the second. But not to worry. Most of the other so called BMW owner dont even know what UDM means. BTW, SDP mean Sheer Driving Pleasure after the UDM was dropped.

5)dont really know but i got 2 places from this forum as i am from penang.
Again, you have learn well, my young padawan. :top: :top:

6)dont know, thats why i am asking you guys
Normally around RM300 to 800 depending on what have been changed and depend on the usage. But please allocate about RM4000 for the first servicing as you dont know whether the previous owner have carried out the recommended maintenance. Honestly, most BMW owner tend to skip this and pass it to the next owner. It is hard to find a good car from use car dealer because they do not know the history of the car. I have spent about RM1000 for my first servicing and another RM3000 for repair of my GB which fail which I trash the car during the six months of ownership

That one is old school. When you start you car, the display will tell you what is the amount of mileage left to the next oil change for an E46. For E36, the green and red bar on the instrument cluster will tell you. Inspection light I or II will remind you also when to carry out the next servicing.

so am i ready to own one or what?? haha
Maybe.. Maybe... :listen::listen::listen:

A bit of advise. Dont rush. Take your time to find an UDM. Get 2nd opinion and also ask your dad for his opinion. He have driven a conti car (Volvo) and he should know some thing about the cost of maintaining a car. The cost of maintaining a car under warranty (japanese car) and a used UDM is a totally ball game. so choose wisely.

BTW, one of my friend drive an Volvo and he has his fair share of nightmare with the volvo.

thanks jarance.. i just go through reading the pages. understand more on the question.err jarance (or anyone), can u gimme some basic answer for my question so i can understand in simple way? for example a) enjin 1.9 makan minyak banyak tapi ada advantege pada blablabla b)1.9 ada reverse sensor and 1.8 dont have c) etc etc... (i will read it thoroughly too..).....thanks all :)

Like my post earlier,
My sincere advice is, ready in your pocket another rm10 to 15k for repair. Its quite nobody who will sell their bimmer unless the car started to visit workshop more freguently, and with longer bill. If you're ready with that amount, u'll be no regret owning u're bimmer. Most BMW models are benchmarks of their respective classes. When you've finished with that amount, u're bimmer is just as reliable as other top Toyota + .

To Jen,
1.9 M43 is an upgrade of M42 from e36. Its a simple engine with less sensors, oso far cry compared with N42 in term of NM, HP and overall drivability. But of course less head ache when come to maintenance and its cost.
