The next question all of us ought to ask is this, why is this happening?

Malaysia is a country blessed with abundant natural resources from tin, rubber, logs, palm oil and oil. Why is the people's purchasing power diminishing??

Negara kaya, rakyat miskin.

I am all for the removal of subsidies, not only for oil but other subsidies as well (flour, sugar, cars and so forth).

Cheers

What TDM have done is nothing short of miracle that he have put us where we are today. It was TDM policy that pull us through from the 97 financial crisis (look at thailand and indonesian post 97)... Because of TDM policy that Malaysia have one of the biggest middle income population in the world ... It's because of TDM policy that so many people have got college and university education ... It's because of TDM that Malaysia is very well known all over the world (for the right reasons) .. it's because of TDM that Malaysia is a major player in the manufacturing of electronics components due to incentive policy in attracting FDI and having a large pool of skilled labour .. i can go on and on :D
Please don't downplay TDM contribution to the nation... Yes he may have erred a few times but his positive contribution far outweighs the negative.
We should be grateful that we have TDM who has the vision, intellect and wisdom to transform Malaysia to what it is now ...

Back to oil then :D ... imo the government should just end the oil subsidy altogether and use the money to improve our public transport, restructure the road tax scheme (i.e. make it cheaper) or maybe use the money to buy the toll operator companies and make the highway free for everyone...

Whatever achievements you listed doesn't affect my life directly. It makes no difference to me if we managed to build the most fuel efficient space shuttle. But, the only thing I like about this Father of All Corruption is that during his tenure SITUATION IS UNDER CONTROL AT ALL TIMES. That was one hell of an achievement. Sad to say, leaders after him are all SNAFU leaders.

This is where you need to thank TAAB. While he wasn't the best PM we ever had, at least he opened up the opportunity for everyone to speak up, freedom of speech. Imagine TDM in power when our rakyat were out protesting, acid would have replaced tear gas. That's how TDM used to control the situation.

TDM only promoted the country to the world, but realistically none of us gained monetarily unless if you're involved with the administration in some ways. Everyone was so proud of his privatisation policy, how has it really helped us ALL?

What's the point of inflating only for a handful to gain? How long is this going to go on without the bubble bursting?

Seconded.

P/S: Now anyone pls buy my BMWs coz I cannot survive the new petrol price.
What to do need to go back to Proton:eek:

I am perfectly happy to pay for unsubsidized fuel, unsubsidized sugar, etc... no more subsidies. But in return I would demand that road tax be abolished or made a nominal flat rate for all cars. After all, the reason we are paying high road taxes is that the money raised is supposed to subsidize our fuel. So end subsidies... end road tax. Oh and while we're at it, how about abolishing that crappy and overbearingly high import/excise duties on our cars? I am fed up with having to pay exorbitantly high prices to own and use a car in this country, when people in other countries pay far less (in absolute, and in relative-to-income terms).

Alternatively, a road tax that is tied to the amount of pollution your car emits (like the UK system). Now that type of road tax, I don't mind paying as it encourages us to reduce the pollution our cars emit.

Your idea makes so much sense that it will never be implemented. Think of something less sensible like parents who sends their children to school by bus must pay more taxes because the bus emits a lot of dangerous gases or, non-smokers must pay more taxes because smokers already pay a lot of taxes when they buy cigarettes.

For fuel purchase, only approved XX bank's credit card can be used. They will bill you on a monthly basis, it will be tier rate.
One household allowed 1 account only, with multiple supplementary. Account will be charged Rm100/year of service charge, regardless number of cards issued. Annual card fees depend on usage where it will be 1% of your annual total fuel purchase. Only malaysian citizens are allowed to apply. This bank is none other than.....

1st 100liters will be subsidised. Subsequent liters purchased will be tier rated.

Dun think this is accurate la. All credit cards can be used at the pump to get your subsidy info. Also no annual fee charges etc to consumers. You'll have to link your CC's to your IC/Car prior to that tho.

that sounds complicated, involving multiple parties integrating their software and hardware. not to mention the huge database's administration. familiar with the phrase 'sistem offline, harap maaf'? pay full price la then..

point to ponder - why do you think other countries don't implement such tiered fuel pricing? is it because they are governed by uneducated and unimaginative policy makers? how lucky we are to be malaysians...

who knows..maybe need to privatise management of fuel subsidy because it's complicated...integration is simple and not much necessary as long as it's privatised and managed and handled only by 1 bank..all consumers apply for that specific card from that specific bank....just like Rm10mil allocated to kickstart football revival....Rm10mil is just the initial, to be joined with FAM....

Why dont use "touch and go" card..

Since quite a lot of people are using it.. You top up the card and the govt also top up the subsidy. All petrol station install T&G reader adaptor. Not much cost involve since can read bonuslink card and credit card. Just add software to read mykad and T&G card. Then you touch and fill (not feel).. Info on the card would prevent non malaysian from using the card to pump petrol..

If you dont use the subsidy, then govt use it for other things like visit Disney Land for study tour and educational tour like farming in Taiwan or china.

Bro,

Sarawak and Sabah no "Touch and Go" at petrol stations or on the roads. Only "Touch and Go" at selected Happy Hour premises after 6pm and without HMs knowledge.

Salut
