The E46 325, especially the last batch should be a pretty reliable car with all the initial production gremlins being sorted out.

I wouldn't say the car is banyak masuk workshop, it is just that BMW owners are fussy :) If you drive with a proton, toyota, honda or the Korean makes, most will live with the rattles, vibration and what not but not a BMW. A slight wind noise here or a slightly shimmy under braking will make the owner frown and a visit to the workshop is the next thing.

Like what every has said, the parts are longer lasting but most importantly the driving experience is something many other brands cant offer.:)

Spot on ALBundy, when I drive Proton, Perodua and even Toyota, I don't even care to pay much attention to all those noise, handling etc. When switch to BMW, check tyres wear, interior, engine and mechanical part regularly. Every thing put in the best that I can affort.

Aiyak, I also double standard towards car la!!!

well said, but my gf said that I take care of the car more than her.. how?

Anyhow, it is a little manja as it has more part than normal car (thus more can break) and as what b33mer mentioned lots of rubber which make the car much more refined than other makes. Well, without TLC the car will still run but not perfect. It is harder to find used and good conditioned car as most seller would like to pass over the maintenance to the next owner, it is expected that you put aside some amount of money to get it up to better condition after acquisition for repairs or mods.

Welcome to the forum. Cheers.

wei bro..u of coz la..u mr diy king here..u sure spend more time with ur udm la..well me also la..gf complaint why she din get the tender n care as like my car

Bryancmc,

If you want a bimmer with the absolute minimum of problems:
1) Buy new, or
2) Buy one of the bimmers listed in the classified section of the forum because most of the bimmers there are maintained, loved and driven by those who eat, drink, shit, sleep, dream, fantasize, lust, love, adore bimmers with all their blood, sweat, tears and wallets.

If you are buying a recond or second hand bimmer:-
1) Do not rush into the deal.
2) Do not trust what the salesman says.
3) Always insist the car is diagnosed with a GT1 from a reputable workshop that does work on bimmers.
4) Make friends with the forummers here and bring one or more along when you view the car. We are all passionate about bimmers and will help out another bimmer brother.
5) Research, research, research into bimmers because you are not getting a T-shirt - use today, don't like, throw away tomorrow. You are getting into a life-long relationship with the Ultimate Driving Machine that will give you Sheer Driving Pleasure.

Salut

Bro solo, since we are on the diagnostic topic, have you finally got live data from your car?

Bro your gf said that you take care of the car more than her.. reminds me a jokes from a friends of mine from Sabah.
The jokes was the wife always complaining to her hubby that he take care the car more then her, because when ever the hubby saw a big hole on the road when he was driving sure he will brakes and slowly cross over the big holes. But when come to her small hole sure the hubby will accelerate as fast as possible !!!

Yes, live data is available via INPA, haven't tried DIS44 yet though. Also, been waiting for my OBC stalk to arrive, going to install it with your DIY as one of the guides.

I thought this is correct as you must accelerate to reach the finish line.

Hi all,

I am new here and I am from JB. BMW have been my dream car all the time but my family have always object me from buying a BMW. This is solely because of its high maintenance fees and Banyak Masuk Workshop which means they think that continental cars especially BMW is very "kacau" and "leceh"

Now, talk about maintenance, already survey and I dont really care about the normal service fee such as engine oil, oil filter and etc. But about the parts, are they really so expensive??

As about "banyak masuk workshop", is it really so problematics??? It would be pissed if the car breaks down every few weeks or months.

For you information, I am going to buy an used E46 325, year 2004.

Would appreciate your comments on these.....really thanks.

ahh my car stayed is most of the workshops for around 3 months or more and it was very leceh one, and for the parts man oh man ... i spent my legs and arms to get it fixxed and always been visiting to all the spare part shops , chops shops , massage shops after a long day of finding parts around malaysia ...each time my wallet fills up with the colourful notes it will end up on parts and mods which aren't giving me a colourfull life either ...dammm and as for now i never had even checked on my bills ...very worried lorr ..each time i try to calculate it ..the calculator will either turn off or the figures would be wrongly keyed in and becomes very difficult to always count and keep on counting ...

my family always wanted me to have a merc and i did not listen and took a beemer instead...ayooo how larr like that .... :) end of the day it's going to be your liking , moolahs and hope you can choose it wisely ....

We can always say anything, u have your final say....UDM or not UDM....

Guys, thanks a lot for all the info & experiences sharing, I do appreciate that very much.

This afternoon, I asked the salesman to send the car to my mechanic for checking and it was sentenced to death by my mechanic:

1) Front lower arm cacat already.....
2) Steering leg also cacat.......
3) Gear box's ratio is not right....
4) Engine oil was not well taken care by previous owner.....

On the other hand, I called the service center this morning to check the service history of that car (this is my normal practice before buy an used car):

1) The owner had never sent the car back to AB for service.
2) The owner filed lots of complaints such as car cant start la, this light came out that light came out la, bla bla bla....
3) The owner had just changed the gear box in May 2009.

Anyway, going to send another E46 325 year 2002 to my mechanic for checking tomorrow. Hope can find a good condition Bring More Woman soon .....

Again, thanks a lot for all the opinions given .....

I just want to say this and it goes to everyone here as well..
