Hi all, I am new here and I am from JB. BMW have been my dream car all the time but my family have always object me from buying a BMW. This is solely because of its high maintenance fees and Banyak Masuk Workshop which means they think that continental cars especially BMW is very "kacau" and "leceh" Now, talk about maintenance, already survey and I dont really care about the normal service fee such as engine oil, oil filter and etc. But about the parts, are they really so expensive?? As about "banyak masuk workshop", is it really so problematics??? It would be pissed if the car breaks down every few weeks or months. For you information, I am going to buy an used E46 325, year 2004. Would appreciate your comments on these.....really thanks.

Hi, i am a E46 328i owner and i am telling you that after 2 month owner ship i have spend around rm15000 on the car such as tyre ps3, brand new m3 side mirror, headlamp, respray the car, side rod, gear oil, oil change and etc. This car maintain by a good owner and he did almost 70 percent of the car . but i am itchy and i want to give the car in lagi tip top condition so i change other [part in order to prevent broke down and etc..

For my opinion, it is a banyak masuk workshop car, but for me i like to masuk workshop due to i can gain more knowledge and i know more about my car...although the maintenance is expensive and a bit problematic but once you drive the car..you will feel that you are willing to give in for it. that kind of feeling is very raw and dynamic. For your case, since your car is a 2004 car, should be less problematic but also depend on the previous owner. the best is go to a workshop and diagnose it. i am also from jb, i am currently service and repair my car in Jack place ( impian emas). Highly recommend you to him due to he is a honest and friendly guy.

I am still new, there is many sifu here can help you, just to break your ice by a very short introduction about bmw. Cheers

That's the most important thing Bryan-have good friends who know their BMWs well and the know the mechanics in JB-you'll be fine-just continue to be active in this forum and meet up/call up the other forummers-make friends.

If that's the case then BMW is not for you ... It is not a problematic car but it is a very manja car ... Once you've replaced the parts it should last you for several years so you should ask the car owner or look at the service history to see what has been changed. Fyi there's quite a lot or rubber and plastics used on BMW's so it's bound to be hard and brittle over the years and need replacing. I suggest you do a LOT of research on what parts to change, the price of the parts, maintenance schedule, labour price and also the workshop frequented by members of this board. You can start your research on the maintenance thread. Once you've done your research only then decide whether to buy or not.

well said, but my gf said that I take care of the car more than her.. how?

Anyhow, it is a little manja as it has more part than normal car (thus more can break) and as what b33mer mentioned lots of rubber which make the car much more refined than other makes. Well, without TLC the car will still run but not perfect. It is harder to find used and good conditioned car as most seller would like to pass over the maintenance to the next owner, it is expected that you put aside some amount of money to get it up to better condition after acquisition for repairs or mods.

Welcome to the forum. Cheers.

bryancmc, let me share my experience. I got my e46 2004 (a 4-potter btw) some 6 months back. Read thru most of the postings in here to know more/research about the car and expected the worst. So, first thing that i did when i got the car was to send it to a garage (decided based on the feedback from the forum) to have it checked thoroughly inside out. Guess i am one of those very lucky owners who got the car in an immaculate condition i.e. no engine/systems issues, most of the wear and tear items had been changed. Only thing i had to change was the absorbers and the 2 front tires. Other than that, its normal service which i do every 2 months (i travel a lot). Till today, i'm a happy camper. In the next few weeks, itching to change rims and rubber lining for the rear door.

Take your time to scrutinize the car that you want. Most sifus would agree, prevention is better than cure. So i guess you'll have your money's worth. After all, you are driving the Ultimate Driving Machine. All the best!!

base on my experience, compare to malaysian or japanese car, continental is more reliable.....wear and tear parts long lasting that the japs...i have e90 brand new so still hassle free and so far never drive back to workshop except for oil service...so i'm speechless..but i owned c200 w202 yr 98 and that's a really good car even after 10 years the car still easily can tapau BMW (no offence aaa..since the car tapau 320i)....and my accord year 2007 is now start giving problem when the car reach 5 years and need to change multiple parts now...normal..life also like that what, when you are 20's you are sexy and good looking but when you are getting old, u need to pay more to make sure you are still value to the market, there goes where you start to use botox, simply siti, etc....

When u buy the car better check overall because once the car koyak...your pocket also koyak...but if the car maintained well by the previous owner, u will be the most lucky guy in the planet earth...so no way we can say BMW is like this, Cherry is like that. car is still machine and need maintanance to survive...depends on your luck when we talk about 2nd hand...part for sure continental is more expensive than japs...

The E46 325, especially the last batch should be a pretty reliable car with all the initial production gremlins being sorted out.

I wouldn't say the car is banyak masuk workshop, it is just that BMW owners are fussy :) If you drive with a proton, toyota, honda or the Korean makes, most will live with the rattles, vibration and what not but not a BMW. A slight wind noise here or a slightly shimmy under braking will make the owner frown and a visit to the workshop is the next thing.

Like what everyone has said, the parts are longer lasting but most importantly the driving experience is something many other brands cant offer.:)

Well said bundy..i agree that the BMW drivers are fussy..and thats why we choose BMW. Otherwise, get a Japanse or Korean car.
