Aiyoh, this is indeed worrisome. Gotta go check mine. Sigh....when will these all (the problems seems to be surfacing every now and then) end?

Voice this issue to my SA today at Ingress PJ and she assure me that it won't happen to mine.

Phew!

taykhai, make sure they change new for u. ask to see the old one before u collect urgent car.

Checked with my SA from Wearnes today and confirm my trunk is drilled as well. My SA tole me that they drilled the additional holes to stop the rattling sound. SA said that they tried double sided tape but the rattling sound will come back after a few months. But I am sure there is a better way to solve this problem than drilling a physical holes. I cannot believe this is happening to a BMW car.

Why BMW delaers did this in Malaysia? Could be a case of 3rd world Malaysian mentallity, we have long way to go. Club BMW forum seems to be a pioneer in voicing such drilling of holes :), and if we can get BMW to feel the pain they might learn their lesson and becoming better aware that consumers do mind stupid and careless actions. They cannot take other people hard earned money for granted and drill a quater million ringgit car at their whim..:smokin:

bmw full of surprises

Wtf.....that's bmw.. with full of surprises.
Hope you dun have to topup oil every 3mths...

QUOTE=taykhai;789344]Dear mates,

I have recently purchase a F30 320i from a dealer in Segambut and upon further inspection when I sent my car for glass coating, to my horror I found 2 holes drilled into my rear trunk just behind the no. plate. When I called my SA, he told me all bmw delivered by them are done the same. His reason-We drilled the holes to secure the no. plate (as if the original holes are not sufficient). I told him why can't u put a double sided tape instead.

Isn't it a bloody common sense not to drill holes into one's car, furthermore this is a brand new $200k+++ Beemer.
I told my SA you better get me a NEW trunk or I'll bring my car straight to BMW Malaysia and escalate this matter up accordingly.

Is there any members out there whom have their brand new BMW drilled with holes into their car rear trunk to secure their no. plate? Below are links to some photos for your reference

Can u guys advise me what's the next best course of action?

Thank you[/QUOTE]

Mine is from Quill, there is no extra measures to secure the plate holder. No rattling sound so far...

Is this a common problem?

Rattling sound? They don't even know how to use double sided tape properly? Seriously I have been using double sided tape with all my previous cars and even with the current E90. No issues with it as long as the plate holder has sufficient double sided tape and especially if it is the 3M branded ones, no issues with it coming out. Why I know this? When I broke my old plate holder when trying to swap to the new fancy plate, it took me like 45 minutes to peel out the damn plate from the bumper and another good 20 minutes of using small amounts of alcohol to remove the sticker residue on the bumper.

Well said, and the dealers should actually inform or seek consent that they drilled holes to secure the plate holders.

The issue is also like this. Inasmuch as it hurts to find out that the bumper was drilled you will also face the dealer saying that in Malaysia all number plates are fixed at a certain place and that by drilling the bumper it does not cause any cosmetic defects to the car (bearing in mind you cannot place the number plate elsewhere or not have it). So that also another problem la. What to do ... sometimes dealers etc take things for granted.

For whatever reason they don't drill mine, not that I am complaining, just wondering why. When I close the bonet, yup, you could hear the plate rattles..apart from that no sound. What they could have done is to use the existing holes and 3M double sided tapes as extra hold..as simple as that, and they could save electricity & drill, avoid owners' anguish. Seems that we need to tell people exactly how to do their job:thefinger:

My SA from Wearnes Autohaus promised to change a new trunk for me. :)

Finally, my trunk was replaced. My SA was helpful throughout the process, most importantly they have decided to changed their SOP of just putting double sided tape on all new cars in future once and for all.

As a matter of fact, I was surprised to learn that even Lexus drilled holes into their new cars to secure their no. plates.
Anyway, I'm glad that after this, the practice will be a thing of the past for all future Bmw owners ;)

Happy New Year..mates ;)

Spoken to one of the SA from Wearnes few days back durig my visit there on this and they did confirm that drilling holes no longer be a practise for securing plate no for cars from their dealership.
And they did replaced those new trunks under their own cost as BMW Malaysia resist to reimburse claim to them which make sense as the defect are "human made" by dealer's vendor not a design defect watsoever.
But hey good to know that dealer are willing to fork out their own money to solve issues faced by customers.
