Hi,

Have yet to voice to BMW Malaysia as I'm going down to the dealer today to get them to change my trunk. My SA has promised to change the trunk for me this week. Fingers crossed....However I am wondering even after the change of new trunk, should I still highlight this matter to BMW Malaysia for the benefit of all.

The thing is I suspect that the SA n the technical idiot whom drilled it would have known and kept mum about the problem, betting that I won't realize it so that they can get away with it. Moreover I am pissed that the SA have the bloody guts to tell me "It's a normal procedure, we drilled holes into all new cars to secure the no. Plate".

Let's see how it goes to day...will keep u guys updated.

Thanks for all the info n sharing.

Cheers

You should definitely highlight this matter to prevent it from reoccurring on someone else.

However, do exercise empathy. I know the tech guys are actually under alot of stress and most are professional enough to still maintain composure despite the crap we give, however deserving. I have had my fair share of problems with my new BMW and believe me I have gone to great lengths to make my concerns known to the management so that there will be improvement..

just my 2 cents.

*If they do a good job, go ahead and give them a written complement.

i wouldn't call that drilled coz it looks more like they hack it with a nail or something...

for your information this is standard practice in Auto Bavaria coz they outsourced the fitment to one party who supplies the plates and most AB cars has this 'hacked' holes on the rear and front as well...but now segambut is under Wearnes and still the same practice means that they are still using the same supplier for the plates....so far from my experience most cars from AB Segambut and AB Sg Besi has this holes...

my previous e60 and e81 has this and both from AB Sg. Besi...current e60 from AB Glenmarie none and ex-39 from AB Penang none...

Don't think they have a choice for the front as the bumper is curved, and you do need to secure the plate holder properly. But for the rear, the original 2 mounting points are sufficient. Mine has 4 holes for the front, one for each corner of the plate holder, but the bumper is of ABS material, so no issues with rust. Rear uses the standard 2 holes.

Unless the new trunk is factory painted from Germany (like SKD BMWs from my understanding), it's not going to have the same factory paint quality as the original. I don't believe spare BMW parts can be ordered factory painted.

So the holes (sealed) might be a better option vs. a new trunk.

this is just utter madness!! guess we'll see more of this if a dealer has done it.... just checked mine and no additional screw needed and the plate is
just fine.

hope they replace it for u ..

Went to dealer today n SA has promised a new trunk for me.
I will take his words for now. Expected to get it done within this month, once the part has arrived.

taykhai,

I was at Wearnes Autohaus late this morning. I also understand that Wearnes Autohaus' management had an internal meeting over this matter and hopefully this matter is now resoveld with the agreement to replace a new trunck.

Wow, I'm quite impressed that Herbert took the responsibility to check with the dealer for the welfare of a Club Guest.

Herbert, I salute you!

Like jarance said the installer really damn stupid why not just drill on the number plate holder or using the good quality double side tape.

Hi Herbert,

Thank you, really appreciate your effort and concern with our welfare.
I really hope my problem could be solved amicably and that Wearnes keep to their promise in replacing a new trunk for me.

Will keep u guys posted on the outcome.

Cheers

taykhai,

Have faith with Wearnes and I am sure they will do all they can to get you a new trunk replacement.
