Dear mates,I have recently purchase a F30 320i from a dealer in Segambut and upon further inspection when I sent my car for glass coating, to my horror I found 2 holes drilled into my rear trunk just behind the no. plate. When I called my SA, he told me all bmw delivered by them are done the same. His reason-We drilled the holes to secure the no. plate (as if the original holes are not sufficient). I told him why can't u put a double sided tape instead.Isn't it a bloody common sense not to drill holes into one's car, furthermore this is a brand new $200k+++ Beemer.I told my SA you better get me a NEW trunk or I'll bring my car straight to BMW Malaysia and escalate this matter up accordingly. Is there any members out there whom have their brand new BMW drilled with holes into their car rear trunk to secure their no. plate? Below are links to some photos for your referencehttp://humanfactor.com.my/wp-content/uploads/2012/12/photo.jpghttp://humanfactor.com.my/wp-content/uploads/2012/12/photo-1.jpghttp://humanfactor.com.my/wp-content/uploads/2012/12/photo-2.jpgCan u guys advise me what's the next best course of action?Thank you

do u mean that is common to have holes drilled into your rear trunk? and it's a common practice for all/most dealers to do so? the front bumper is ok coz it's made of ABS and won't rust...the holes in the rear trunk will rust overtime and eventually leads to further damage. Am I missing anything here?

Stupid installer of the number plate. They should drilled the holes on the number plate holder.

wow.no need for additional drilled holes.
we had none and never our plate fell off !
double sided will do just fine,in fact the existing holes will do just enough.

Greetings and good morning bro.

Sorry to hear of your predicament ... If its Segambut outlet, must be Wearnes and you can alwys refer to its Dealer Principal for advise.

wow, sucks man, even the metal shavings can be seen, what stupidity to drill, have to use the given holes... even my old e30 does not have it....

my plates is on double sided tape for more than 4 years no problem at all ... Hope you get your new trunk.

Push for a new trunk!
Been using the factory plate mount holes and it is more than secure enough. That is a stupid reason given by the dealer, those holes will cause rust issues in no time.

Hi guys,

Sorry for the late introduction...just did mine in the Newbies section.

Cheers

Why on earth did they need to drill the extra holes. Don't think it requires any more than just common sense to either use the current holes already in place or just use double sided tape.

That thing is going to rust in no time especially in our weather conditions.

Hi,

Have yet to voice to BMW Malaysia as I'm going down to the dealer today to get them to change my trunk. My SA has promised to change the trunk for me this week. Fingers crossed....However I am wondering even after the change of new trunk, should I still highlight this matter to BMW Malaysia for the benefit of all.

The thing is I suspect that the SA n the technical idiot whom drilled it would have known and kept mum about the problem, betting that I won't realize it so that they can get away with it. Moreover I am pissed that the SA have the bloody guts to tell me "It's a normal procedure, we drilled holes into all new cars to secure the no. Plate".

Let's see how it goes to day...will keep u guys updated.

Thanks for all the info n sharing.

Cheers

Can anyone please forward me the email address for the MD in BMW Malaysia?

Thanks a million

Cheers
