SLK,

what would you recommend for compound, medium polish and finishing polish?

Thanks.

Since your car has been repainted, this means you clear coat should be thicker than OEM. So what you can do is

1. Spot sanding to remove bad scratches
2. Compound with M85 Diamond Cut Compound 2.0 + Wool pad
3. Medium polish to remove swirls caused by compound with M83 Dual Action Cleaner Polish + Polishing pad.
4. Finishing polish to achieve high gloss paint with M83 Swirl Free Polish + Finishing Pad.
5. LSP of your choice.

You can even top with Kit Wax after step 4 because it has been prep properly. The only thing is Kit wax doesnt lasts :D. For me, finished off with M21 except for the rooftop with Soft 99 Fusso Coat. Fusso Coat can last for 3/4 months :D Great water beading capability!

If you want to go extreme, do dry sanding first to remove orange peel

Sweet...i'll go check out the products at Hypercoat asap. If i've not mistaken, i think the only product from the professional range that's available at ENEOS is the #7, am planning to pick up a bottle of #26 by next week to be used on top of my NXT wax..:D Oh yeah, did you come across the #16 at Hypercoat or is it not available here in M'sia? Heard that it's a carnauba based wax and gives a very similar effect and if not better compared to the #26.

If anyone has it, they will because they are the main distributor...

Thanks for your detailed response, slk.

Thanks slk! :) As for the polish + wax combination, a lot of meguiar's users like using the Show car glaze+ #26 ( 2 coats) combination and they said that it gives a really nice wet look/shine. If i've not mistaken, #26 is pure carnauba wax while #21 is more of a synthetic sealent right? Does carnauba wax gives a more glossy wet look shine compared to the synthetic ones? The only thing i know about carnauba waxes is that they do not last as long as the synthetic waxes, correct me if i'm wrong guys. :)

M07 is not easy to use. Normally ppl use it for showcars and garage queens :D and best used at the final step.

M26 is not purely carnauba wax. It is blended with some polymers. Carnauba waxes does bring warmth, depth and wet look! The only this is poor durability and smudges/streaking. M26 is also not easy to buff off

Cool...i'll go get myself a bottle of #26 once i've finished using my NXT wax then..:)
Is the P21S from the meguiar's range as well? Saw from your avatar that you're located at KL/Melbourne, any idea if this P21S can be purchased anywhere near KL/PJ? Thanks!

S100 is the same as P21S except for the price tag :D. The Harley Davidson dealer in PJ used to sell S100 but now no more. The nearest dealer is in Singapore.

Here is the link for P21S dealer in Singapore :

Yeah....the point is #16 is already discontinued in the U.S but still available in some parts of the world, that's why i'm wondering if it can still be found in K.L. :)

The M26 liquid is only available in 1 gallon size from Hypercoat :D So if you want to test M26, get the paste version. I've already sold mine after using only once :D Hypercoat still have plenty of M16 left! M16 is easier to use but you must apply a very very very very thin coat! M16 contains carnauba too.

Hypercoat only opens from Monday to Friday, 9am to 5pm.

Hehe..you're right bro slk...my ride is more or less like a garage queen because i only drive it for like once or max. twice a week. :D

As for the #26, just found this from the meguiar's website :

Hi-Tech Yellow Wax is a premium yellow Carnauba wax blended with silicones, polymers and other waxes. Adds richness and depth of color. Provides ultimate high gloss protection to any previously cleaned and polished paint finish. Available in liquid or paste.

You're right bro, it's not a pure carnauba wax but i suppose it is one of the products that contain a high percentage of carnauba wax in it from the Meguiar's range, correct me if i'm wrong guys. :)

Please send to a reputable detailer if you want to do sanding. One of them is Darren of Auto Detailer PJ.

Im still a newbie in detailing. Kevster is the sifu :D

Nah, plenty are still available at Hypercoat. There was around 10 boxes left and each box contains around 6/7 units if im not mistaken :D. Get M16 from Hypercoat only because those from Ace Hardware, their M16 can all dented.

Yes, higher percentage of carnauba. But caunauba wax tend to smudge. Not that easy to use

That's some excellent info bro! Are you a professional detailer by profession, if you don't mind my asking? :D

Btw, is the #26 really that difficult to use?? I remember reading it somewhere that it is one of the easy on easy off products from meguiar's as well...i guess the person who said that must have applied an extremely thin coat as well then.....:D Now i'm having doubts if i should just stay put with the NXT wax or take a plunge and go try out the #26 for myself.....:(

Detailing is a hobby of mine :D Zeytee is my sifu. You can visit his blog at : http://zeytee.blogspot.com/

M26 is not that easy to use compared to NXT :D Err maybe we can meet up and Ill ask my friend to bring over his M26 for you to test. But its adviceable to finish off what you have first before trying other products because these detailing products wont last a lifetime :)

I've used M26 (in the US) since I started detailing my cars many many years ago. To be honest, I find M26 a bit overated as

1) It doesn't last long
2) the result is not as stunning as I would hope for
3) M26 is a multistep product, and requires prior steps for polish etc.

If you are going to be hardcore with multistep systems, I'd recommend straight towards Zaino process. Zaino is exclusive as you can't even use normal car shampoos for the wash process heh. Hence I've never gone that route, plus it requires a LOT of patience unless you get the accelerator ZFX (which is not cheap) instead of waiting for layers to cure. I've seen the results of Zaino and its mind blowing!

Unfortunately my lifestyle pattern is not condusive to the Zaino way.

Also I'd caution being over enthusiastic at the begining. Car paint is NOT like skincare. Skin grows back when you exfolliate, but with clearcoats, once you cut, its gone forever. There has been many "learning" processes from enthusiasts, trial and error and many had to get a new paintjob after 1-2 years into the hobby :). You should always inspect the condition of your paint to determine what process you should take and what program you will have to commit to to maintain the condition of the paint. As someone put it, washing very frequently (i.e. daily/almost daily) with a good shampoo is probably the best thing you can do for your paint.

Btw, I have known zeytee for many years now. One of the great hobbyist. However, his personal car stays at home (aka garage queen) most of the time and he drives a beater for his daily driver for work etc. Thats hardcore!

Good advice, e46fanatic.

That's why I'm experimenting all i can on the current coat before my planned respray at the end of the year.

Detailing the car until it becomes it is no longer a means of transport but a showcase for your hard work and skill... *respect* we're not worthy...

ease of use always depends on the user. in order to decide on what products to use first ask yourself how much time you are willing to spend to detail your car. for me detailing is a hobby and i spend hours on the car per week.
products like zaino will give you a very good look but is marginally harder to apply.

Like most other carnauba waxes, #26 should be applied a panel at a time and removed as soon as you finish the panel. if the product is left for too long it will be very hard to buff off.
if you do decide that detailing is your thing, i would also recommend you to look at more expensive products such as zaino. dont get me wrong i have nothing against meguairs and i started off detailing with their products but they are definitely not as good a product as people in malaysia seem to think.

Here is a sample pic of my car with
1.NXT and 2. Zaino All-In-One & 2 Layers of P21S
The difference in flesh is much clearer than the pics but you can still see the increase in gloss & depth
1.

Yeah..i know what you mean bro..the only thing with zaino is the availability of the products in M'sia. If i've not mistaken, the only place where we can purchase the products is this :

HHK Auto Line
3 USJ 19/2
47620 Subang Jaya

I've not yet personally been to the distributor's place so i'm not too sure what exactly the have to offer. Whereas for Meguiar's, the products are more accesible here in K.L compared to P21S or Zaino tho. :)

As for hours spent detailing, i don't mind spending time on it as well. I do my wash+polish+wax routine every single week for about 4hrs + per session. :D

That would be great bro...would like to meet up with the detailing gurus to learn more as well!:) Is there any possibility that Hypercoat will be bringing in the 16oz #26 in near future?
