They are just delaying the inevitable....
Trying to look good with their measly road tax reductions. Who are they trying to kid? They are just trying to make it easier to sell Protons. It's just a question of "when" NOT "if" petrol prices go up..

I think we should stop discussing about toll increase and the current petrol price. If one can afford a BMW, toll and fuel should not be an issue. This is a prestigious BMW Club, not a Proton Club. There is a standard to be maintained.

why not! its still our hard earned money through blood and sweat (i can't vouch for everyone here but i work very hard for my living) .... mind you, not everybody here drives the new 6 series..... so what standard to maintain! pure nonsense! we contribute to most of the taxes already required by law as good citizens of this bolehland and yet our g'ment intends to suck more from us. WTF?

all of us here have the common love and passion for this german marque and all of us here drive different series and models so every single one of us here is unique in a way likewise our disposable income to buy and maintain our beloved cars...

there is nothing wrong or to be embarrassed about in discussing issues similar to this one in this forum...

cheers:)

To zero in on the tongkat issue, better to get rid of the NEP and its preferrential treatment for the preferred citizens.... better way to gain a non artificial economy

You shuld think further of your statement. Without those thing what make you think you can leave happily in this country where economy imbalances happen. Or maybe you would like to see the 1969 thing happen again. If the thing happen, do you think you can live and work happily and drive your bmw around?

Even in the US also they have preference for the white..
In China preference for the Han
In Israel for the khazar

everywhere in this world there is preference..

The government sucks RM4500 every MONTH from me in the form of income tax. Every month I subsidised most of the lower income group in terms of taxes. Some citizens don't even pay taxes. I risk my LIFE everytime I go to work. I can't guarantee I can come home safely. I am the one who is supposed to be fuming mad here! History shows that the price of fuel in this country is always on the rise. It will never come down even if cars run on tap water. The way this issue has been discussed as if most of us do not even qualify to own a car, let alone a BMW. I can understand if one wants to discuss about high maintenance costs and parts because there are alternatives. When it comes to fuel and toll, what choices have you got apart from making lifestyle changes and sacrifices.

Are you one of 'those'? if so, are you so used to ur crutches that u actually try and defend that position by an underlying threat of May 13...typical! If you can't hold an arguement on merits please refrain from adding anything of non value, moreso of childish threats... Please refrain from portraying yourself as just another keriswielder wishing to bathe it with the blood of the infidels. There's no place in this Club for such sentiments.

Firstly, there is discrimination in lots of places, but there is no country that i know of that practices it by implementing it as affirmative action policies like the NEP (or NAP as some would prefer). But let me say it in a language and style that maybe u might understand.... jus becoz someone jumps over the cliff, you have to follow? Two wrongs don't make a right.

Kindly be informed that this topic will no longer be entertained by me due to the sensitivities of the sensitive amongst us... we'll just continue with the topic of the thread.

K.M,

I believe nowadays nobody wants to talk about 1969, let alone to remind others about it. But, once a while it is good to remind others of what actually happened just to cross check the direction of this nation. May 13 1969 incident has got nothing to do with economic disparity. It was more than that. When DAP won a number of seats during the election, the supporters went parading around K.L with banners and slogans, and to mention the broom - as a symbol to sweep away the Bumis from the city and into the jungle. In a way, DAP was attempting ethnic cleansing. There were political unrest in Bangsar, Setapak and downtown K.L. Coupled with a weak PM who was only interested in playing mahjong and gambling, there was a perfect recipe for disaster. Businesses could not grow. The whole nation was in the state of emergency. At one point, leaders from various races "...could not even afford to face each other". The issue had to be scaled down from "ethnic cleansing" to "economic disparity". Only then, the reconciliation process could start. It was very shameful especially in that particular year a man named Neil Armstrong first landed on the moon but our nation was going backwards. At last, all the parties agreed that NEP was the answer even though the programme was actually under-compensated in nature, taking into account that the Bumis in K.L were intentionally going to be "swept" into the jungle (not even into the kampung) . Having said this, it was such a small price to pay in order for others to live comfortably. Because of this, the mid 70s was such a pleasant era to live. Also, because of this the older generation were more tolerant because they understand the real issue and they believe it is not worth going through it for the second time. Of course, not everybody in K.L when it happened were bad people. There were stories of good samaritans that involved Malays helping the Chinese and vice versa during the emergency. That generation learned a lot of things. Suffice to say, they were the best generation (baby boomers) that Malaysia had produced so far in terms of ethnic relations. NEP also has its own life span. Sad to say, Malay leaders did not take full advantage when it was still in effect. They became feudal lords, by creating millionaires overnight and also by enriching themselves. Mistakes were repeated. Those who really need the support were deprived. The feudal lords are the ones that feel worried when the NEP was taken away, not the commoners. Today, when competition becomes more intense, people like blackrobe start questioning. He has the right to question. I hope the feudal lords have the answer.

from... wikipedia
Matters came to a head in the 1969 general election. When polling closed on the mainland peninsula (West Malaysia) on May 10, it emerged the Alliance had won less than half of the popular vote, although it was assured of 66 out of 104 Parliamentary seats available. Much of the losses came from the MCA, straining relations between the two parties. However, the Alliance was dealt an even larger blow on the state level, losing control of Kelantan, Perak, and Penang. Selangor - whose Chief Minister, Harun Idris, was perceived as among the most radical Malay extremists in calling for special rights - also saw its State Assembly evenly divided between the government and opposition. To celebrate, the DAP and Gerakan staged a march throughout the federal capital of Kuala Lumpur in Selangor. Harun organised a counter-rally on May 13 which saw Malays gathered from all over the state, armed with parangs (machetes) and other weapons. Harun and other UMNO politicians lambasted the opposition for their "insults" and challenging Malay supremacy in government, and stated the counter-rally would "teach the Chinese a lesson". The rally erupted into a full-fledged riot, with armed Malays looting and burning Chinese shops and homes. The Chinese soon fought back, raising the tension. When the police arrived, they were outnumbered by the rioters, and were forced to call in army units for aid. The predominantly Malay soldiers reportedly concentrated on controlling the Chinese rioters. The riot lasted for two days, despite the imposition of a nationwide curfew. At least 178 were killed in the riot, although some sources have placed the figure in the proximity of 1,000 dead.

It's not a threat. It just one of the consequences that could happen if there is economy imbalance, if the thing you'd mentioned before been implement. It been discussed alot in international writings about Malaysia economy and consequences of abolishing affirmative action . If you can posted some extreme comments in some previous topics, why can't I...is it because you are one of the committee member here and wearing a black robe? You should be more open than being so emotional accusing other people as childdish, keriswielder or what so ever...why so pissed off?

I totally agreed with you. My opinion is from economic point of view. I agreed that not all 'Tongkat' are neccessary with most of it been used by certain group to make wealth for themselves. But wiping out all 'tongkat' it will create another different scenario in this country. Like one of well known Malaysian Chinese tycoon said in the Newsweek " If the bumis were not happy, I won't be rich as now".

let's chill on this issue...

I know everyone has opinion to express. but please be cool and level headed if u insist in deliberating on the issue. Otherwise, the moderators would come on and lock the thread.

writen by a penghulu...

I do hope that everyone in the forum is entitled to freedom of speech but not extremist opinions. We are all mature adults here ( I hope) and I trust everyone to behave like one. A little discussion even on government policies can be enlightened to some and useful for all. Of course, if anyone crosses the line, I trust that the moderator can do a good job to stamp the problems.

Just be responsible and considerate (not forgetting polite and courteous) in dishing out your thoughts.

If anyone does not like the topics discussed please refrain from reading and posting on said threads.... its a choice we all make...it's a matter of a click of the mouse. Stay out of the kitchen if its too hot for u.... No one is forced to post or read postings.... make your choice NOT to read them. And if its decided that it should not be discussed since its not car related, better close down the Autobahn and General Discussion thread.... lets not be picky.
